Therefore, the character's treacherous actions in the films, such as infecting the archaeologist Charlie Holloway with an alien mutagen, would be from a desire to create a new evolutionary generation of his own.
Pathogenic mutation. Over the course of the expedition, Holloway is infected with the Engineer black liquid by David. The infection at first very slowly mutates him and no symptoms are present. Holloway eventually has sex with Shaw and unknowingly impregnates her with an alien monster.

And Peter Weyland obsession with beating death only confirmed his beliefs, that humans at the end of the day, at the end of everything…
In June 2011, Scott and Lindelof confirmed that Prometheus takes place in the same universe as the events of the Alien series. In July 2011, Scott stated that "by the end of the third act you start to realize there's a DNA of the very first Alien, but none of the subsequent [films]."
