She is able to put Marlin first despite his insensitivity to her feelings because she genuinely cares about helping, just as a hero would. Dory's positive outlook on life and trust in those around her is the only thing that got the two of them through the journey to find Nemo.
She suffers from the disability short-term memory-loss, which often causes frustration to Marlin, especially while his son Nemo is in danger. However, her childlike optimism and ability to communicate different languages from both humans and whales have helped both her and Marlin advance their quest to find Nemo.
The two bring out the best in each other, challenge each other, and help each other grow. Through the adventure, Dory helps Marlin learns how to trust and let go. While, for Dory, she admits, “I remember things better with you. I look at you, and I… and I'm home,” to Marlin.
Neither Hank nor Marlin actually are 'lovers' of Dory. They are just good friends. Considering the amount of time Dory spent with each of them, and the things they did together, I think Dory would've held Hank in admiration for helping her get back to her parents.
Despite him being believed to be an ominous and dangerous creature toward Marlin and Dory, he is actually harmless to the two and eventually used his blowhole for the two fish to end up in Sydney Harbour.
Marlin proves to be emotionally disabled from the traumatic loss of his wife, and eggs. “Like many single parents who have survived a tragedy, Marlin turns neurotically overprotective of his son (Germain, 2003)”. Marlin helps represent the struggle with chronic anxiety, and the effect it has on relationships.
Nemo. Dory has a motherly relationship with Nemo. When the two met, she was relieved to find someone with kindness, and offered to help him look for his father, although she didn't remember she was looking for him too.

However, after his wife and future child were killed by a beast in the ocean and only Nemo was left, Marlin was protective and very worried about what would happen in the future. Therefore, Marlin forbade Nemo to go to the drop-off and not do anything that endangers him.
It's quite obvious that Dory has anterograde amnesia, which is the inability to form new memories. I also see many of the signs of ADHD within the character.
Marlin chooses to name his only surviving child Nemo, a name Coral had liked. As Nemo grows, Marlin becomes very overprotective of him, in part due to Nemo's unusually small right fin, which was a result of the egg damage from the barracuda attack.

Coral is a minor character in Disney/Pixar's 2003 animated film, Finding Nemo. She was the mate of Marlin and mother of Nemo and approximately 399 unborn clownfish. Unfortunately, Coral and her entire family were attacked by a barracuda in which all of them except Marlin and Nemo perished.
