Harry Styles almost took an adventure under the sea. However, the "As It Was" singer ultimately chose to not pursue the role of Prince Eric in live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. And as the film's director Rob Marshall explained, it was all due to Harry wanting to be part of another world career-wise.

Prince Eric is most likely Danish due to Hans Christian Andersen's appearance in the TV series. Prince Eric's original voice actor Christopher Daniel Barnes was only 16 when he recorded his voice for Eric.
What happened to Ariel's mom in The Little Mermaid?
While it is known that her mother perished, there is no story attached to the event. However, much later, in 2008, an animated The Little Mermaid prequel revealed that Ariel's mother was crushed by a pirate ship during an altercation between humans and merpeople.
Once Disney had cast Halle Bailey in the role of Ariel in its live action The Little Mermaid, fans immediately started wondering who would be cast opposite her as Prince Eric, with one of the most popular choices being singer Harry Styles. Instead, Jonah Hauer-King was cast in the Rob Marshall-directed film.
“I had done a photoshoot for Disney a few years back where Annie Leibowitz shot me as Ursula,” Queen Latifah told “GMA” in an exclusive interview. “So when this popped up, it was like, OK, a TV production. Alright … Once they explained to me the way that they wanted to do it, I thought it was interesting.”
