Summary and Analysis Part 2: Chapter 10. Katniss is at first so angry with Peeta for his comments, believing that he made her look weak, that when they get off on floor 12, she shoves him. He knocks an urn over, shattering it, and then falls and cuts his hands on the shards.
Peeta Mellark is chosen as District 12's boy tribute, which makes Katniss feel as if the odds truly are against her. She is not friends with Peeta, but she recalls how they first met. It was years ago when Katniss was 11 and her father had recently died.
She certainly felt conflicted since she knew the boy had been kind to her in the past by giving her bread. Since he had become a contestant in the Hunger Games, however, Katniss assumed that Peeta would put aside that kindness for the sake of his own survival.
Though Katniss began her journey in the Hunger Games seeing Peeta as a potential weight that would slow her down in the arena, she came to realize that he was a genuinely good person, and she didn't want to lose him. In Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Katniss grew to admire Peeta even more.
She vacillates, first deciding that Peeta is two-faced and that he is now showing his true colors. He has betrayed her and is betraying all of District 12 by buddying up with the Careers, whom she calls the "Capitol's lapdogs." She decides that if the Careers don't kill him, she'd be more than happy to.
Katniss was stuck between her feelings for Gale and Peeta in The Hunger Games, but the books proved who she was always meant to end up with. Like many literary love triangles, Katniss, Peeta, and Gale's situation sparked a fevered debate.
He was bitten by a mutt, Katniss stopped the bleeding by using a tourniquet. After he and Katniss forced the Gamemakers to accept them both, as the Victors. He was treated by Captiol doctors, and his leg was amputated. In Catching Fire when they both go back to the arena, he does have a artificial leg.
The female Morphling's sacrifice for Peeta in the Hunger Games: Catching Fire was not random, but a result of her dedication to the rebellion. The Morphlings, including the female, were aware of the rebellion and the plan to break out of the arena, unlike Katniss who was kept in the dark.
It implies that Katniss fell in love with Peeta during their second Games and only truly realized it once he was a prisoner of the Capitol. Thankfully, one moment provided clarity. When Peeta hit the electric fence and stopped breathing, Katniss was genuinely scared.
Katniss was sickened to think of all the people that Gale sentenced to death, and she chose to stop the rebels from firing on them immediately. Katniss' dislike of Gale's plan demonstrates that she does not agree with his lust for violence, and viewers see that Gale has a vicious streak.
While he was imprisoned in the Capitol, Peeta was hijacked into believing that Katniss was not human, but in fact one of the Capitol's mutts. Conversely, Johanna Mason suggested that the Capitol's torture replaced Peeta with an "evil-mutt version" of himself. This sentiment was later echoed by Katniss.
Katniss has a conflicted relationship with her mother. Following her father's death, her mother fell into deep depression and now rarely speaks. As a result, Katniss has a difficult time feeling love and affection for her mother, even as she recognizes that her mother is a kind and intelligent woman.
Drinking is Haymitch's way of tuning out the present and the pain of his Hunger Games. His alcoholism was also prompted by the loss of his entire family shortly after he won the Games, at the hand of President Snow, due to his rebellious victory.
Katniss here's this and understands that even though she may not love Peeta (then) that it's one less person who has to die. (At least that's what I have always thought.) Katniss realizes that if she pretends to be in love with Peeta people will want the capitol to let them survive.
Katniss loves Peeta, although it's perhaps not the traditional passionate romance of many Hollywood movies. Katniss not only ends up with Peeta, she even confirms that she loves him in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 epilogue.
Once the games begin, Peeta forms alliances with the Careers, which Katniss does not initially realize is part of his plot to protect her. After Peeta tells Katniss to run from Cato, Cato stabs Peeta in the thigh and leaves him for dead. Peeta lives, disguising himself as a rock, but suffers from blood poisoning.
After their last interview, in which the two continue to affect their romantic feelings for one another, Peeta comes to the realization Katniss has staged her love for him all along.
Even though the third part Suzanne Collins's Hunger Games trilogy, Mockingjay, was split in two, one scene was omitted from the films - the infamous sex scene between Peeta and Katniss at the end of the novel. There were, of course, hundreds of fans who wanted to see the pair do the dirty on screen.
Did Peeta actually have a crush on Katniss before the reaping?
Ever since he was five years old, Peeta had a huge crush on Katniss Everdeen. On the first day of school, Peeta's father pointed her out, saying that he wanted to marry her mother but ultimately didn't as she married a coal miner.
For Peeta to look like he was tortured, many think he went on an extreme diet. But in reality, they used CGI to slim his face and make him look abused and beaten.
During an interview with Good Morning Britain, Hutcherson admitted his weight loss was an effect. I did nothing to prepare physically for this role. I went on the CGI diet, computer-generated images. They just sucked my face down in post-production.
Chia Mags kisses Finnick on the mouth to briefly let him know that this is the last time she will see him. It's her way of saying "Goodbye" but in a more affectionate way.
Katniss is rendered deaf in one ear after she blows up the Careers' supplies, and she doesn't regain any hearing on her left side until afterwards when the Capitol gives her a hearing aid.
Among the names that were considered for Peeta included Hunter Parrish, Lucas Till, and Evan Peters. Coincidentally enough, Till and Peters became co-stars of Jennifer Lawrence while working on the X-Men franchise but they missed the chance at a gig in the Hunger Games series.
Alma Coin was the true villain of The Hunger Games, with Katniss actually seeing her as more of a threat than Coriolanus Snow. At the same time, it was Snow who was made out to be the bad guy in previous movies, making some question why Katniss killed Coin and spared him.
