Luthor's resentment towards Superman may not be as strong as fans suspected, however, as he just sacrificed his own life to save the Kryptonian. Prior to DC's Dark Nights: Death Metal event, Luthor was working as Perpetua's second-in-command until that position was taken over by the Batman Who Laughs.
In Justice League Unlimited's final episode, "Destroyer", Lex Luthor and Metron obtain the Anti-Life Equation from the Source in a last-ditch effort to stop Darkseid. It causes both Luthor and Darkseid to disappear in a flash of light, and according to Dwayne McDuffie, they were absorbed into the Source Wall.
Thus, Lex Luthor creates him for the sole purpose of killing Superman, naming the monster "[Superman's] doomsday," and claiming that Superman was "as good as dead" if he were to fight Doomsday.
The movie shows Lex Luthor mixing his own blood with that of General Zod to create the monster in the Genesis Chamber of the Kryptonian spaceship that crashed in Man of Steel.
In Justice League Unlimited, passage beyond the Source wall could only be survived by a "12th level intellect". Lex Luthor was able to enter and exit the Source, stating to Metron that he was "overqualified".
Nevertheless, he envied Clark's happy family life, as he had a dysfunctional relationship with his abusive father, Lionel. Their relationship crumbled, and Lex was set on the road to evil. He would use and abuse people with meteor powers, just as his dad would do, until one day he decided to murder his father.
One character who was able to resist the Anti-Life Equation was Flash, or rather the Speed Force, as it allowed him to negate the effects of the equation. Superman was another hero who was unaffected by the Anti-Life Equation, most notably in Final Crisis where Superman states it did not get everyone.
The killing of Zod gave a reason for the character never to kill again. Superman falling to the ground and screaming afterward — I don't think that was originally in the script, but I wanted to show the pain he had.

As an adult, Lex Luthor's driving ambitions are to kill Superman and rule Earth, a stepping stone to dominating the universe, believing a man of his intellect deserves such power. On several occasions he joins forces with Superman's enemy Brainiac (though the two often betray each other as well).
Snyder explained the villain's apparent forgetfulness on Vero: "He almost died when he returned to [Apokolips, Darkseid's planet] he was in a fight for power and much time passed before he was in a position of power again and by then all who had been with him had been Slayed."
However, Darkseid's life essence endured even the death of his body and fell back in time, where he was reborn as "Boss Dark Side", aided by his resurrected minions and the supervillain Libra. Once again bound to the form of a human, "Boss Dark Side" began to appear in a number of titles in the run up to Final Crisis.

Even Batman's best villains often have to struggle and steal to enact their plans, which means Bruce will always have an advantage with the tools at his disposal.
Why does Superman cry in the end of Man Of Steel? It's cause Superman's code was never to kill people. But in the end, he was “forced” to kill him or else other innocent people would die. Although there were other options like flying Zod upwards out of the building away from the civilians.
Although he was angered at Jor-El's refusal to restore the Kandorians' powers, Zod nevertheless regretted Jor-El's death, executing the Kandorian responsible and showing some respect for Kal-El out of recognition of his relationship with his father.
Some might assume that General Zod sees Superman as his biggest enemy due to their fighting over the years, but that's not actually true. While Zod dislikes Superman, his hatred for Superman is due to Superman's father, Jor-El, whose defeat of Zod haunts him to this very day.
Just looking at the numbers, Darkseid would win. His Omega Beams wipe out anything they hit from existance, or in the case of Batman send that person back in time.
His ability to heal around any injury could be the reason he's able to bounce back so easily, and why the Anti-Life is unable to fully consume him. It could even be argued the result of Lobo's unique mentality and darker mindset gave him an impervious edge against the otherwise unstoppable Anti-Life Virus.
