In the context of the story, Snoke is a "genetic strandcast" created by Emperor Palpatine to serve as his proxy in power. Snoke, whom Abrams called "a powerful figure on the dark side of the Force", was introduced as the leader of the First Order and master to the sequel trilogy's main villain, Kylo Ren.
With his clone form far from full power and dependent on a support system that kept him (literally) attached to Exegol, though, Palpatine needed someone to work in his stead. For that he had his loyal followers build him Snoke (and many Snoke copies).
Snoke himself was created as one of the earliest attempts to produce a viable, worthy vessel for Sidious' essence to inhabit in the event of his demise and allow him to cheat death.

The most agreed upon theory, started by Reddit user Lumparoo in 2016, is that Jar-Jar is a powerful Force-user conspiring with Darth Sidious. In addition to this, some believe he either trained, or was supposed to become Supreme Leader Snoke, or that he is a reincarnation of Darth Plagueis.

It seems improbable that Snoke did not know that Palpatine created him, but despite being steeped in knowledge surrounding the Dark Side, there is no evidence in any of the canon content that Snoke knew Palpatine was alive, let alone that he created him.
Snoke and his many copies were not a clone of any known individual the way the Clone Army soldiers were modified copies of Jango Fett. Nor was he a one-for-one recreation of a previous body like Palpatine's clone body. Snoke was an entirely new being made from scratch, and Dr.
Thus, while Qui-Gon was less powerful than the likes of Yoda and Mace Windu, Palpatine feared him more. In the simplest terms, he was a wild card, and with the Sidious executing an intricate decades-long plan to seize power and destroy the Jedi, a wild card was something he just couldn't afford.
That didn't stop fans speculating on whether Snoke was really Darth Plagueis or Anakin Skywalker's evil twin or something else entirely. It didn't turn out to be anything as grand when The Rise of Skywalker revealed that, actually, Emperor Palpatine was in charge all along.
However, given that this confirmation was never made into the movie, nor was it ever revisited, the idea that Darth Plagueis created Anakin remains just a theory. The same applies to whether Palpatine created Anakin, which has never been confirmed by the Star Wars canon.
Mace Windu. Now, Snoke is not the Emperor, he's a mere clone of him, a puppet. However, this does not mean he's weak. The Supreme Leader has great knowledge in the dark side and has perform a few feats of his own and was almost near Palpatine's power.
When it comes to combat skills, there's no question that Palpatine was far more capable with a lightsaber in his hands than Snoke. Not many people can launch into a 920 corkscrew spin from a prone position and that includes the Supreme Leader.

There was only a single identical Palpatine clone, but numerous altered clones over the entire Sith headquarters. In Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, why was Palpatine's return from the dead criticised even though he did the same thing multiple times in the Legends continuity?
Regardless of the veracity of that report, Triclops was regarded as the true son of Palpatine, both by himself and the few high-ranking officials who knew of him. Triclops' education was entrusted to the Prophets of the Dark Side, an ancient cult who had pledged allegiance to Palpatine's Galactic Empire.
However, with the Empire in place, Palpatine needed enforcers who would encourage patriotic fanaticism more than he needed perfect soldiers. Had Palpatine maintained a clone military once the Empire was in place, he would likely have inspired even greater rebellion than he already faced.
Since Snoke is a strand-cast, his height was likely deliberately determined before his creation by Palpatine and the Sith Eternal cultists. With this in mind, a tall and intimidating appearance is unsurprising for a being who was initially intended to simply house Palpatine's spirit.
Snoke latched onto Solo since he was a child, infiltrating his mind, fostering mistrust in his family and the Jedi. Ben's strength with the Force trapped him as Snoke seized on the opportunity to replicate what Palpatine did with Anakin.
The helmet was designed to look sinister; as a Knight of Ren, Ren was part of an enclave of dark side warriors who wore masks to induce fear in their prey. Ren's helmet was a symbolic reminder of his lineage as Darth Vader's grandson, serving no practical use in his life.
Although it's not fully clear where the Darth moniker originated, Darth Andeddu is thought to be the first character to use the title in-universe. Having originated in Legends, Andeddu was mentioned in the new canon in the comic Star Wars Adventures: Return to Vader's Castle 2, which referenced "Andeddu's flames".
