Why did Hans turn evil in Frozen?
Being the youngest sibling of 13 princes, Hans spent much of his life being ignored and abused at the hands of his older brothers, something he reveals to Anna during their encounter at the coronation banquet. Said abuse also leads him to do the same to others either to gain his own kingdom or out of spite.
When Anna informed him that she required an act of true love to be saved, Hans finally dropped his act and revealed that he had used her all along to seize power. Realizing Anna was of no more use to him alive, Hans extinguished all the heat sources in the library and locked her inside, leaving her to freeze to death.
Later in Frozen, after his plot twist, Hans explains he would have just waited for the perfect time to plan an accident to befall the queen after he married Anna, which would make him king by marriage to the then new queen, Anna.
