When Fez didn't answer, she headed for Lexi's (Maude Apatow) home, her childhood best friend. Experiencing the hell of withdrawal, Rue turned up under the guise of not feeling well and needing to use their bathroom but Lexi's mother saw right through Rue's act and called Rue's mother.
It is, however, a good way to measure depression because when reality TV begins to feel like work, like, final season of "Mad Men" work, you know you're depressed. Like, haven't got out of bed to pee in 24 hours depressed.
Rue is so depressed she doesn't even want to go to the bathroom. I've done that before but more like I'm so lazy I don't even want to get up, so a little different, or a lot different… Because when you are depressed you can't stop yourself from feeling worse as Rue puts it.
Rue fell into a depression where she just laid in bed watching reality television for hours on end. It got so bad that she couldn't even get up to use the bathroom, injuring herself in the process.
The lead character, Rue Bennett (played by Zendaya), is said to be a realistic representation of a girl navigating her way with bipolar. In her hypomanic state, Bennett portrays someone hyper-focused and excitable; then, she is swallowed up by a depression that renders her unable to pull herself out of bed.
Rue suffers from ADHD, bipolar, general anxiety, depression, and BPD – and rather than romanticising her trauma, creator Sam Levinson shows Rue's days stretching out ahead of her: a monotonous Sisyphean struggle with her own psyche.
Characterization and creation. She's thin, she's blonde, she says "wow" a lot. Cassie is depicted as being eccentric and suffering from several mental disorders — most notably, anorexia nervosa — and multiple issues, including low self-esteem, suicidal ideation, and drug addiction, but is gentle-natured and friendly.
For as long as Rue can remember, she has suffered from mental turmoil, emotional chaos, and has used some combination of substances to cope. When she was a young adolescent (maybe 13 years old), her father fell ill with cancer and she began experimenting with his opioid medication.
At the end of the season two finale, Rue says in a narration that she stayed clean for the rest of the school year. But psychiatrists who watch Euphoria agree that Rue's longer path to recovery will not be easy—nor would it be if she were a teen in the real world.
Rue's oversized heavy-gauge burgundy hoodie is one of the first clues that clothing plays a big part in the show's narrative arcs. It's a simple piece with a tragic backstory, an heirloom that belonged to her late father, retrieved from the end of the bed when he died.
“I thought it would be cool if we made [it clear that] the hoodie was Rue's [late] dad's hoodie. [I wanted to capture] that attachment that you have to inanimate objects when somebody passes.” And the Euphoria star adds that the way Rue incorporates her sweatshirt into her daily look is reflective of how she's feeling.
Back at home, Rue has held off peeing for so long that she's on the edge of a kidney infection. Her mom finds her in agony on the floor on the way to the bathroom and helps her, getting her cleaned up and settled back in some clean sheets, realizing that her Rue is in the middle of a depressive episode.
History. In June 2018, when Rue and Gia were home alone, while their mother was at work, Rue tried a multitude of drugs that ultimately was too much for her body to handle as she threw up and overdosed on those said pills. Gia was the one who found her unconscious next to a puddle of her own vomit.
In the end Rue makes amends with both Jules and Elliot, but things don't go completely back to normal between them. In her closing monologue, Rue lets the audience know that she remained sober and clean for the rest of the school year.
Suffering from withdrawal, the teen has experienced physical pain unlike any “Euphoria” portrayed before. And in keeping with the style of this writer's room and Zendaya's strengths as an actor, viewers weren't spared a moment of the agony — from cramps and fevers to shakes so extreme she couldn't open a Jolly Rancher.
“I think 'Euphoria' can help them understand,” she said, agreeing the show is a fair representation of high school life, albeit a bit exaggerated for dramatic effect. “It's a good thing for them to watch.” Zach Agostino is an 18-year-old living in Toronto and a pandemic-era high school graduate.
Suddenly, the suitcase holding $10,000 worth of drugs Laurie (Martha Kelly) gave Rue to sell is gone. Rue spends most of the episode on the run trying to evade another stint in rehab. Ultimately, she ends up stealing jewelry and $2,000 from someone in the neighborhood to pay Laurie back.
A person can't technically be diagnosed with BPD until they are at least 18 years old, and other issues like complicated grief, as opposed to a personality disorder could be at play with Cassie, but Dr. Mills says the character would indeed fit the diagnostic criteria for Borderline Personality Disorder.
Since Jules was about seven or eight, she dealt with bouts of depression, anxiety, and self-harm largely stemming from gender dysphoria, which eventually led to her mother taking her to a psychiatric hospital against her will at age 11.
Each character has a main color and style that is associated with them. For instance, Cassie wears baby blue and pink signifying how she has a naive innocence about her, while Kat changed from simple denim to a red leather dominatrix as she tries to break away from being the quiet, shy pushover.
After Sid becomes aware of her actions, he confronts her about her promiscuity, apologises for dating Michelle, and tells her he loves her. They reconcile. Cassie's subplot in the last three episodes of series 2 focuses on her friendship with Chris.
When Rue ends up at Cassie and Lexi's house during episode 5, though, Euphoria season 2 exposes the affair and then quickly moves on. Rue exposes Cassie and Nate to Maddy in an effort to distract her mother and friends while they are attempting to lure her back to rehab.
