We finally find out what happened to Maude: When they were both preteen girls, Brynn and Maude had an argument that got physical. Brynn bashed Maude on the head with a rock and killed her. No wonder Maude's parents hate her. Brynn has carried this guilt and shame her entire life.
As a result, some question if the end is real or if Brynn is dreaming. While Duffield explained that the end could be interpreted any way, his personal take is that it is real, and taps into an important idea of humanity's ability to heal and rebuild after tragic events.

This establishes that the aliens empathize with her after learning about how the town alienated her because of her childhood mistake. They realize that even though she is human, she is no less of an alien than them. As a result, unlike the people of Brynn's town, they accept her as a part of their own species.
In an unexpected turn of events, the aliens let her go as if deciding she underwent enough trauma for a lifetime, so they won't enslave her. The final scene shows Brynn interacting and dancing with the very same townsfolk who shunned her earlier in the film.
"Most of the movie there's not really a good reason for her to talk because she's trying so hard to not make a sound," he added. "She's not going to say, 'It's an alien in my house!' Also, when you have Kaitlyn Dever, she doesn't need to say anything. She can monologue with her eyes in a really impressive way."
As you can see, the whole movie winds up being an allegory for forgiveness, where in humans cannot forgive Brynn for something she did as a kid, but these aliens, who are able to separate themselves from emotions, understand that Brynn has served her punishment and should be allowed back into society.
Brynn is an outcast, because of the terrible mistake she made when she was young (namely accidentally killing her best friend) the town and community of which she was once an accepted member of, has shunned her and her mother into a life of seclusion; in this sense, you could say that Brynn is an alien to society.
Duffield decided to make Brynn a literally voiceless presence, which he found surprisingly easy to do. "It was a character thing where this person really wants a community and doesn't think she's deserving of one. It felt like that device just amplified her character," he continues.
Opposed to the fantastical beings in recent films like 2016's “Arrival” and 2022's “Nope,” the aliens in “No One Will Save You” are modeled after the “grey alien” archetype. “We all grew up with the greys,” Duffield said. “I felt like I was missing this movie monster that I loved and no one was giving it to me.
No One Will Save You makes some interesting and original choices, and Kaitlyn Dever is great; on the other hand, it's rarely scary, and the ending might be a letdown.
