The leftover symbiote inside Eddie rejected Venom and transformed him to become a stronger force for good. Now calling himself Anti-Venom, Eddie became a hero dedicated to stopping Venom's influence. The U.S. military then stepped in and removed the symbiote from Gargan permanently, having their own plans for it.
Despite being disgusted and frightened by the Venom symbiote's bloodlust, Eddie quickly grows to revel in the power it gives him, and is offended and outraged when he discovers that it has been consuming him from the inside-out.
The relationship between Eddie and Venom was hailed by both critics and fans. Those that ship based around the comics, believe that the two are already in a committed relationship. Often they site the two raising one of Venom's offspring together.
Since his debut however, Venom has evolved into an antiheroic figure, slowly distancing himself from his initial goal to ruin Spider-Man's life to try and do good instead, even putting aside his differences with and helping Spider-Man at times.

In the first run of the character, venom didn't necessarily add a large amount of bulk to its host, Eddie was just a really big guy. In more modern renditions, it's level of bulk/size has to do with the amount of control the host has on the symbiote/the emotions of the symbiote.
Why does Venom call himself “we” compared to other symbiote users who say “I”? Venom is not the only symbiote user who does this. It is just a way to highlight how the union works. “We" implies a collective effort, and Venom is the product of a melding between a man and an extraterrestrial creature.
Basically, the symbiote didn't attempted to talk with Peter because it wanted to remain loyal and obedient like a servant. It didn't felt the need to talk to him, only to serve him.
