One is that ghosts in the world of Ghostbusters are simply not able to speak. Throughout the films, we see plenty of ghosts screech, moan, yell, and make babbling noises, but we never actually hear or see them speak. Gozer speaks in the original movie and in Afterlife, but she's a demonic deity, not a ghost.
To bring Egon Spengler back from the spirit realm, the team began by studying his life's work. MPC Film's Character Lab built a library of reference material from the 1984 and 1989 Ghostbusters films and were given access to digital scans of earlier footage that had never been used before.

What ghost killed Egon Spengler?
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, the eldest daughter of the late Harold Ramis — Violet Ramis Stiel — talked about how Reitman brought Egon Spengler back for one last Ghostbusters adventure. Depicted as an eccentric recluse, Spengler is killed off by Gozer at the beginning of the story.
The soon-to-retire Egon is investigating the mysterious disappearance of Mads Nielsen. He suspects Mads' older brother Ulrich (unknown to him that he's the very same murder suspect he arrested many years back) is somehow involved and maintains a strong prejudice against him.

The animators needed ways for the audience to visually tell the characters apart. Peter has brown hair, Ray had orange, Winston with black hair, and Egon with blonde. Same reason they had different color jumpsuits.
According to Feig, who created a backstory with Ghostbusters co-writer Katie Dippold, Slimer was a gangster executed for killing a waiter who screwed up his order. Slimer started his afterlife as a more traditional ghoul, but was disfigured when the Ghostbusters were called to the restaurant he was haunting.

Doris Tiedemann was the wife of Egon Tiedemann and the mother of Claudia Tiedemann. In 1953, the Tiedemanns rented a room in their house to Agnes Nielsen and her son Tronte, who relocated to Winden for unspecified reasons, possibly due to Agnes' involvement with Sic Mundus.
After the Knot was destroyed by Jonas Kahnwald (Louis Hofmann) and Martha Nielsen (Lisa Vicari), all the characters within it also ceased to exist, including the two version of Ulrich. Ulrich was never featured in the final scene of Dark but there was nothing to suggest he didn't survive in the Origin World.
