He began to value his wealth more than his friends, family, and own safety.
Thorin Oakenshield, for example, leader of the Dwarven band that is the focus of The Hobbit, falls after the Battle of the Five Armies; he was driven solely by a lust for wealth, letting nothing stand in his way. His greed got the better of him even before the group left Bag End.
Why did Thorin change his mind? Thorin realizes that Bilbo was right: Thorin should not hoard all of the treasure for himself and must be more selfless. Thorin now understands why Bilbo tried to broker a deal with the Arkenstone. He praises the hobbit for his goodness.
Later in their perilous journey in the Misty Mountains, Thorin risked his life to save Bilbo by swinging down and pushing up to their companions; however, he shortly berates Bilbo for nearly getting them both killed and gives him harsher words of not getting along.
Why does Thorin dislike Bilbo? Thorin and Bilbo have worldviews that are diametrically opposed. Hobbits value the comforts of home and festivity, while dwarves seek riches and battle. Throughout their journey, Thorin continues to undermine Bilbo, despite Thorin's own lack of preparedness and clear leadership views.

Did Thorin ever forgive Bilbo?
Thorin apologizes to Bilbo, saying that the world would be a better place if only more folks were like him. He asks for Bilbo's forgiveness. He bids farewell, and dies. Bilbo cries over the loss of Thorin – but is so glad that he made it in time to say goodbye and to make amends before he died.
Thorin is portrayed by Richard Armitage and Bilbo is portrayed by Martin Freeman. Fans have called them "Thilbo," but it is not canon; however this relationship is platonic in this series. An entire page was dedicated to their relationship in The Battle of the Five Armies movie guide.
Once Thorin gets his hands on Smaug's treasure, he becomes irrationally greedy and obsessed with wealth, to the extent that he would rather wage a violent war than give the men from Lake Town their fair share of the treasure.
They are suspicious of him, of course, but they relax when Bilbo reveals his secret weapon: the Arkenstone. He gives it freely to Bard to be used as a bargaining chip against Thorin. Bard and the Elvenking are amazed that the hobbit would risk inciting the anger of the dwarves in order to prevent a war.
Smaug did not need gold or jewels, but he ceaselessly collected them for no reason other than personal satisfaction. As later revealed in The Lord of the Rings, Thrór had been especially susceptible to dragon sickness because his Ring of Power made him covet wealth.
The wizard called himself "Saruman of Many Colors" and "Saruman Ring-maker," indicating his covetous nature led him to try to make a Ring of Power for himself. Still, it lacked the strength of Sauron's or Gandalf's, so the former White wizard joined the Dark Lord in an attempt to claim some of his power.
Richard Armitage's inside story is thathe cut it off because he was honouring the fallen dwarves and the ones whose beards were scorched. Thorin apologized to Bilbo in Ravenhill in the film before he passed away, but in the book, Thorin apologizes to Bilbo in a tent in Dale.
After the death of Thorin in the Battle of Five Armies, Dain becomes King under the Mountain. He redeems the Arkenstone from Bard with a fourteenth of the treasure, which is used to re-establish Dale. Over the next three years, Bard rebuilds the city of Dale and becomes its ruler. The city begins to prosper again.
TL;DR: Thorin is half-elf, and Fili and Kili are themselves both part elf and half-human. The two young dwarves represent the union of Elves, Men, and Dwarves that once existed before Dale fell, and which will rise again.
Before the War of the Ring, the Dwarves took part in the Battle of Five Armies, an event covered in the third and final installment of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy. While this war ended in victory for the Dwarves, far too many lives were lost, including that of Thorin Oakenshield.
However, Thorin never married nor had any children. The young dwarf king led his people out of Dunland and they finally re-established their home in the Blue Mountains. His younger sister, Dis, later gave birth to two children, Fíli and Kíli.

Tauriel truly threw a wrench in Legolas' life when he fell in love with her. She was brave, fierce, and a protective leader of the guard. He was meant to be the dutiful son of King Thranduil, but in loving her, he became a stubborn, masterful archer instead. He loved exploration and adventure over his duties.
If this wizard is Gandalf, the fact that he was saved by and fought alongside a harfoot when he first arrived in Middle-earth could explain why Gandalf is so fond of hobbits, descendants of the harfoots, and often travels to the Shire to visit them.
The biggest blow to the dwarves is that their king Thorin lies mortally wounded. He forgives Bilbo before dying and lets Bilbo know that he was right all along. Thorin is replaced by Dain as king, Bard rebuilds his town, and Gandalf and Bilbo head for home.
Elvish folk were originally created by the God of Tolkien's world, Ilúvatar, while the Dwarves were given life by the lesser Aulë. This intrinsically sets up the races as a superior and inferior species, since Ilúvatar didn't make the Dwarves out of choice, but merely allowed them to exist out of kindness.
While Thranduil didn't have a problem with Dwarves, he didn't care for a lot of Elves. In the book, Thranduil was an isolationist and with good reason. Thranduil was a Sindarin Elf, which meant that he had never been to Valinor, and he grew up in Doriath under the leadership of King Elu Thingol and Melian the Maia.
Although very little is known about the identity of Legolas' mother, she is referenced a few times in The Hobbit films, and a big part of the source of contention between Taurial and Thranduil is that she thinks him cold and unfeeling, and he thinks her naive and foolhardy.
