The teeth and the tongue simply built upon that symbolic idea of Venom looking like a nightmarish version of Spider-Man. At the same time the teeth and tongue could be said to reflect the host of the symbiote himself, Eddie Brock.
The symbiote displays non-human teeth, which are very sharp, and commonly protrude a long, prehensile tongue from its mouth. Venom is depicted as being physically much bigger than Spider-Man, as well as having more brute strength.
As Venom, the Symbiote grants its host an elongated jaw, fangs, claws, and a prehensile tongue which are really part of the alien. After being bonded to the symbiote, Eddie's teeth turn into fangs.
Proving his villainy in the most unexpected way, Reed's offhand reference to the green drool Venom propels across every fight he wages as "your symbiote's waste product" even gives the handcuffed Eddie pause.
"It just kind of takes the curse off of this super scary guy." The great tongue lengthening was originally something of an accident, artist Erik Larson recently explained on Facebook. Larson thought Venom creator Todd McFarlane once illustrated a trade paperback cover with an extended mouth member and so followed suit.

Despite being disgusted and frightened by the Venom symbiote's bloodlust, Eddie quickly grows to revel in the power it gives him, and is offended and outraged when he discovers that it has been consuming him from the inside-out.

Most folks are familiar with the fact that the symbiote who would come to be known as Venom first bonded with Peter Parker. It got a taste of the power of Spider-Man and grew to love that power. It grew to love the feeling of the wind on its face swinging through the city. It loved the force behind every punch.
While we never got to see the original female version of Venom, Eddie Brock's ex Anne Weying did at one point bond with the symbiote to become She-Venom.
Venom requires brains and chocolate to survive. Marvel's comics explain that Venom has a biological need for the two substances. In the comics, brains and chocolate are prime sources for phenethylamine, a compound that positively affects mood and that Venom needs to live.
As previously stated, the Venom symbiote (as well as a few others) has the ability to live independently from a host, in a humanoid form of his choosing.
This version of the symbiote was created when Cletus Kasady bit Eddie Brock's hand and absorbed part of the Venom symbiote. After saving Kasady, Carnage forms an alliance with him to kill Brock and Venom. Due to their bond being incomplete however, Carnage and Kasady are defeated, with the former being eaten by Venom.
Carnage barely put up a fight. Pieces of the symbiote were on him, but he didn't fully transform or try to defend himself. Venom simply pulled the symbiote off of him and ate it, becoming stronger.

Venom's symbiote has explained on many occasions that the Klyntar planet is practically devoid of emotions, yet over time he knows that he forms genuine love for Eddie. Venom bonds more with Eddie and experiences guilt, jealousy, and sadness over his other half.
In the comics, Carnage has been known to perform similar feats with electronics, but Venom was never able to. However, the first Venom film revealed that Venom is also unable to make weapons similar to Riot's. That's not to say that that Venom isn't capable; he simply doesn't know how to perform these feats.
