How come Tarzan doesn't have a British accent? Because he wasn't raised British. The Mangani, the apes who raised him, had a language, but they didn't really have an accent.
As we see in "Stranger's Like Me", Jane has to teach him how to understand and speak English. However, despite being able to communicate back in English, he speaks with an American accent. The only other people Tarzan knew initially, the Professor and Clayton, also had British accents.
Tarzan was supposed to speak with both an English accent and an American accent depending on whether he was speaking to humans or gorillas but Tony Goldwyn's English accent was so bad, he just stuck to American for the entire movie.
