The return of some characters with the introduction of new ones is definitely a reason for lessening Blue's role in the film. A film can only be so long, so it is common to see roles dialed back in big film franchises to make room for other roles.

Blue has given birth to a daughter, Beta, without a mate, due to her black-throated monitor DNA allowing her to reproduce without the need for a mate. Other than that, she only has a minor role in the sequel, living with Owen, Claire, and Maisie.
While the film's end was a hard confirmation that Blue and Owen's relationship was deep, between a human and dinosaur, her nesting spot was the first real tease.
