Co-director Bob Persichetti proposed the gender-switched role as a subversive twist; when the production cast Kathryn Hahn (“Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation”) as her voice, Sony Animation finally believed that she would make a formidable villain.
Though originally intended to be male, making this version of Doc Ock a woman had been Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse co-director Bob Persichetti's idea. He was friends with Kathryn Hahn, who was eventually cast as Olivia. Olivia's hair resembles the shape of an octopus' body.
This version is a female variation of Otto Octavius named Dr. Olivia "Liv" Octavius. However, this is unassociated with Disney in any way, purely a Sony Pictures Animation project. Lady Octopus was first introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man #406 (October 1995).
Some time later, Otto discovered he was suffering from a "Degenerative Neurological Disorder", probably caused by reckless exposure to chemicals in his youth.
With this data now complete, Doc Ock programmed an Octobot to switch his mind with Spider-Man's when the hero came to pay him one last visit. This trapped Peter's consciousness in Octavius' rapidly declining body, while Octavius—posing as Peter—made his escape.

Using a brain-swapping Octobot, Otto Octavius transplanted his mind into the body of his nemesis Spider-Man. He retained all of Peter's memories, and thus was able to fool all of Peter's family and friends, from Mary Jane Watson and Aunt May to the Avengers.
One of Doc Ock's main weaknesses is water because, besides the bionic arms, he's still a living, breathing human. If Doc Ock drowns, then the arms die with him. Aquaman would definitely use his water abilities to his advantage here and ultimately drown the villain.
Doc Ock's rage stemmed from a vague feeling that Norman had previously outsmarted him and he'd lost something important in the process. He briefly thought he'd redeemed himself as the Superior Spider-Man, a role he sacrificed to stop Norman at the climax of the groundbreaking Superior Spider-Man run.
Though Doctor Octopus himself is portly, in poor physical shape, and is near-sighted, with his harness attached he is physically more than a match for Spider-Man. The accident also made his eyes very sensitive to light, requiring him to wear glasses with shaded lenses.
He is one of Marvel's deadliest villains, having killed his reality's versions of Dr. Strange, Punisher, Spider-Man, Captain America, Daredevil, and Wolverine, to name just a few.
The Jackal brought in Francine Frye whom Electro had previously killed by accident, who convinced him to go through the procedure, but it failed. Francine kissed Electro and absorbed all the energy from his suit, taking the remaining power and his life.
As odd as this pairing may seem, it was genuine. Otto didn't hold back in his care of May. He kept her out of harm's way when trouble found him and almost married her before Spider-Man crashed their wedding.

Although there are no nerve endings throughout the length of his artificial arms, Octopus can “feel” basic sensations with them. As a result of mutagenic changes from exposure to radiation during the accident, electrical connections have been made from his chest harness to his spine.
Beforehand, a distant relative of Aunt May's had passed away, leaving her to inherit a nuclear facility of all things. This was what Doc Ock sought by marrying her, though his mission would become far more difficult than simply reading off his vows.
That he considered calling Osborn's office when under threat and that Osborn had forgiven his past safety violations and referred to him as always the "smartest guy in the room" suggested it remained this way to an extent after the fallout, before souring due to Octavius' resentment of Osborn's dishonesty.
Harry and Peter's friendship strains severely after the death of Harry's father Norman, who was the villainous Green Goblin, which he blames on Peter's alter-ego Spider-Man on top of some resentment towards Peter for seemingly "stealing" Mary Jane's affections from him.
However, after eventually being returned to his senses by Spider-Man, who revealed himself as Peter, Otto (back to his old self) was persuaded by the latter to destroy his fusion reactor. Unfortunately, Otto sacrificed his life in the process of destroying his machine.
Even though Doctor Octopus is advertised as being the only villain who could beat Spider-Man—a promise that he then fulfills—his victory is incredibly short-lived.
