Peeta Mellark is chosen as District 12's boy tribute, which makes Katniss feel as if the odds truly are against her. She is not friends with Peeta, but she recalls how they first met. It was years ago when Katniss was 11 and her father had recently died.
Why is Katniss upset that Peeta is chosen during the reaping?
Katniss wants to survive. She is hoping that someone else will kill off Peeta so that she doesn't have to. She doesn't want to hurt the person that showed her great kindness in her time of desperate need.
Katniss continues to struggle to decipher Peeta's motives. She doubts him and believes that he has declared his love for her in order to make her appear weak in front of the other tributes and sponsors. She accuses Haymitch of helping Peeta more than he helps her.
Katniss is annoyed to see that she and Peeta are dressed exactly alike. Soon enough, she thinks, they'll have to drop their twin act, especially when they're expected to kill one another.
Katniss suspects she hit Peeta because he burned the bread, and she also suspects he burned the bread deliberately so that it would be considered damaged and he could give it to Katniss. In other words, Peeta endures a physical beating so that he can help Katniss.

When did Peeta lose his leg?
He is "broad-shouldered and strong." Part of Peeta's left leg was amputated following the 74th Hunger Games, forcing him to walk with the aid of a prosthetic leg for the rest of his life. In the 2012 film adaptation, his leg is never amputated.
He has betrayed her and is betraying all of District 12 by buddying up with the Careers, whom she calls the "Capitol's lapdogs." She decides that if the Careers don't kill him, she'd be more than happy to. Then, she wonders why Peeta hasn't told them about her bow and arrow skills yet.
While a prisoner of the Capitol, Peeta was hijacked into believing that Katniss was not human, but in fact one of the Capitol's mutts. Conversely, Johanna Mason suggested that the Capitol's torture replaced Peeta with an "evil-mutt version" of himself. This sentiment was later echoed by Katniss.
Due to the horror of his Games, his grief over his family's and girlfriend's deaths, and the overwhelming guilt he felt from being obligated to participate in the Games he hated while each and every one of his mentored tributes died in them, Haymitch turned to alcoholism to cope with his issues and feelings.
Well, firstly, Katniss faked her love for him in order to save both their lives. That's a pretty attractive motivation. And secondly, Peeta did try to move on; not because he was angry at Katniss for the whole love act (which, again, saved his life), but because he thought she was in love with Gale.
While the Hunger Games film never talked about it, the Catching Fire novel explained why she could only communicate through hand gestures. Katniss briefly mentioned that a previous stroke could have caused Mags' garbled speech. However, post-traumatic stress disorder could have also caused her speech incapacity.
It's only implied that they get it on via snuggling and other affectionate acts in close quarters — but if you have read the book, they really imply that they took their relationship to the next level.

In the end of the first book peeta had his leg cut by cato but then when he hid he covered himself with mud and stuff to camouflage and it got hella infected but Katniss found him and took care of him but then his leg got torn up by mutts yada yada yada blah blah blah we already knew this.
This interaction was so surprising to fans because it's not in the books at all. While, throughout the series, there's some chemistry between the two, nothing ever comes of the tension in Suzanne Collins' novels. Beyond the kiss, nothing happened between the two in the movies either.
While Effie Trinket is one of the most beloved characters in The Hunger Games, she's also inadvertently a cruel member of the Capitol. As a villain with heroic moments, she genuinely cares about Katniss and wishes the best for her. However, the way Effie smiles throughout the Reaping can't be anything but inhumane.
How does Katniss respond to him being chosen? Peeta Mellark is the boy that is chosen. Katniss knows him from the time he purposefully burnt bread s that he could give her food. Katniss is flustered because she had always wanted to say thank you to him for giving her the bread and now she was going to have to kill him.
Toward the end of the novel, Katniss realizes that Haymitch has been keeping information from her and using her to help the rebellion, causing her to feel extremely betrayed. On the other hand, his goals are generally good ones.
Johanna won the 71st Hunger Games by pretending to be weak and that made all the other tributes leave her for last. Then she unleashed her full potential and violently killed all the remaining tributes. Johanna, being the only remaining District 7 female victor, was Reaped for the 75th Hunger Games.
These wolf-like mutts are not just murderous creatures created to kill those remaining but horrific monsters that resemble the now-dead tributes. The wolf-like mutts act as a physical representation of how the remaining tributes have themselves become murderous monsters throughout the course of the game.
It took time for Peeta to break out of that conditioning, and even when the possibility existed that Peeta could be a danger to Katniss, the two of them still elected to be together and build a future in a post-Hunger-Games world. Their love for one another is evident.
Finnick learned many secrets, including that Snow, in his rise to power, poisoned his adversaries but to divert suspicion often drank from the same poisoned cup followed by an antidote that only Snow used. Segments of the propo of Katniss and Finnick are aired.
Ignoring Katniss's arrow, Cato runs straight past Katniss and Peeta, headed for the Cornucopia. Upon sighting the mutts, the two race after him. Once on top of the Cornucopia, Cato takes a few moments to catch his breath before he grabs Peeta in a headlock, effectively cutting off his ability to breathe.
Why does Katniss break glimmers fingers with a rock?
Admittedly, this aspect could very well be Katniss' hallucinogenic tracker jacker stings working against her, but she does have to break Glimmer's fingers to retrieve the bow the other tribute was carrying, adding to the scene's grimness.
Peeta used the dyes to paint a picture of Rue after Katniss covered her with flowers when she died. He says he wants to hold them accountable for killing Rue, and Effie tells him that that kind of thinking is forbidden. Katniss then tells the team she hung a dummy of Seneca Crane.
