Best: Peeta's Compassion For Others Of all the good traits that Peeta has, his best overall was his compassion. He truly did care about other people, and he wanted to help. His kindness was on full display in how he treated Katniss but also in the way he honored Rue during the show of skills before the Quarter Quell.
Peeta is best characterized by his love for Katniss and willingness to sacrifice himself for her. Katniss's first memory of him, for instance, is from an incident years before the Games in which Peeta willingly risked a beating to help her.
Peeta is repeatedly described as charming, generous, kind and likable, and possessing a self-deprecating sense of humour. He first confuses and later inspires Katniss with his determination to maintain his identity while inside the arena and his refusal to become a "piece" in the Capitol's game.
Peeta is very strong, and there is a sort of purity to him that wouldn't have helped him survive the Games on his own because he refuses to play on their terms. And as Haymitch and Katniss clearly note, no one decent ever wins the Games. But Peeta does, because of Katniss, going on to prove this even more.
Peeta Mellark served as Katniss' crucial confidant, seeing as he went through it all firsthand, not once, but twice. Despite the terror he faced, Katniss viewed Peeta as a symbol of comfort and salvation.

Is Peeta good or bad?
In fact, Katniss comments several times that he's the kind one out of the two of them. Even though he goes through a lot, he remains tender, considerate, and loving. While Gale isn't a bad person, he lacks Peeta's easygoing and softhearted personality, which ultimately is what Katniss admires the most about Peeta.
Gale is jealous of Peeta and the relationship he has with Katniss, and he wants Katniss to decide between them, though he doesn't press Katniss during her recovery in District 13. Gale is an excellent hunter and excels at setting snares and traps.
He says that the rebels and Capitol supporters must not fight, and he asks everyone to lay down their weapons. The interview ends, but not before Katniss realizes that Peeta's support of a cease-fire makes him a traitor of the revolution.
In Mockingjay Part 1, Peeta is brainwashed by the Capital and becomes a villain, attempting to kill Katniss. In Mockingjay Part 2, they finally reach their happy ending and start a family, despite the lasting trauma they've experienced.
Once he was stable again, Peeta seemed depressed and asked to be killed. For a long time afterwards he did not trust himself and refused to let the others remove his handcuffs. Eventually his personality went back to normal, and he never lost his grip on reality again.
No one on earth could endure the torture that Peeta went through without being horrifically traumatized, but the fact that he was so forthright about his love for Katniss didn't do him any favors in that department either.

By then, they had gone through two games together. To Katniss, there was no one other than Peeta who could truly understand her nightmares and could protect her and soothe her.
The Capitol can't publicly accuse him of being a rebel, and at the same time he manages to use one of the Capitol's greatest publicity tools—his and Katniss's popularity—against it. This ability shows that he's extremely intelligent, and like the other tributes, he's not afraid to try to hurt the Capitol.
Why so evil, Peeta? Well, as we learn at the beginning of Mockingjay (spoilers, obv), he's been brainwashed by a method called “hijacking,” in which Tracker Jacker venom is injected to create hallucinations. In this particular case, he's been brainwashed to hate Katniss.
Coriolanus Snow. President Coriolanus Snow is the main antagonist of the series. He is the autocratic ruler of the Capitol and all of Panem. Though seemingly laid-back, his demeanor hides a sadistic and psychopathic mind.
I think the cruelest part was forcing the kids to kill each other. Not to mention making their families watch, making them anticipate and celebrate it, the whole forced "in love" thingy..and more. Just the cruelty of it all.
Gale is neither truly friends nor enemies with Peeta Mellark though he has felt jealous of Peeta due to the show that Peeta and Katniss put on for the cameras. In Catching Fire, Peeta knew Katniss had feelings for him and fully accepted that he would allow Katniss to be with Gale if it meant her happiness.
Katniss feels betrayed, most of all by Haymitch, who used her and Peeta. Eventually she wakes to find Gale there. He's badly injured and tells her the Capitol bombed District 12 after the Games. He got Prim and Katniss's mother out in time, but the District 12 is gone.
Given that she is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect Peeta, it's safe to assume that the Morphling was committed to the rebel cause. Like the other victors, she knows the power that Katniss has as a lightning rod for the rebellion, and she knows that Katniss will not help without Peeta.
Katniss had lost her trust in Peeta when she realized he had allied with the Careers. She assumed he was helping them to find her in exchange for remaining alive longer himself.
The woods are now ruined. Katniss decides that the Capitol views her and Gale's weekly hunting trips — and the one time that Gale unexpectedly kissed her, which Snow knows about — as flaunting her defiance in front of the entire district.
Gale does not marry anyone in The Hunger Games. He and Katniss talk about running away together and starting a new life in the wilderness, but they never officially marry.
Why did Katniss fall in love with Peeta and not Gale?
Katniss's focus on survival and her family's safety prevented her from fully considering romance, but her feelings for Peeta and Gale diverged in the end. Katniss ultimately chose Peeta because he understood her trauma and she didn't want to lose him, proving her love for him.
