Baelfire died after Emma used her magical powers to separate him and Rumplestiltskin so that Rumplestiltskin could reveal the identity of the Wicked Witch.
If you're still sniffling about Neal's death, you're not alone. In "Quiet Minds," Neal sacrifices his life so that his father can reveal the name of the Wicked Witch. He knows that the town's only chance at defeating the Wicked Witch is with the Dark One, not him.
Baelfire insists that Emma uses her magical abilities to seperate Rumplestiltskin and him so that Rumplestiltskin can tell them who the Wicked Witch is. Emma does this, and Baelfire eventually dies in Emma's arms, with a sad Rumplestiltskin watching over him. A funeral is eventually held for Bae where he is buried.
Neal sacrificed himself in order to save his father, Rumplestiltskin, from the afterlife. He died in the arms of Emma — the mother of their child, Henry — in the woods in season three.

Neal and Mozzie take refuge on the non-extraditing island of Cape Verde, living a lavish lifestyle in a seaside villa, until brought back to New York by Agent Burke. Mozzie goes back to street cons after Neal faked his death.
The season also saw the return of numerous deceased characters from previous seasons, including the Blind Witch, Cora Mills / the Queen of Hearts, Peter Pan, Cruella de Vil, Baelfire / Neal Cassidy, Milah, Prince Henry, Liam Jones, Prince James, Gaston, Claude, and Stealthy.
Neal is forced to leave the woman he loves behind by blaming her for the theft of watches on her person. Emma is hurt by her lover, and ends up pregnant with their son, Henry. She swears to never fall in love again.
Rumplestiltskin's son Baelfire aka Neal Cassidy has always been a fan-favorite character in the ABC fantasy series Once Upon a Time. Unlike his cowardly father, Baelfire is brave and ambitious. His nickname also happens to be Bae, which makes him even more likable.

Michael Raymond-James is set to reprise his role as Neal in this world, Balefire in the Enchanted Forest, during the show's upcoming 100th episode. As you know, because maybe you cried about it when it happened, Neal died in the middle of Season 3, after sacrificing himself to save his father.
A year after his 'death', Mozzie gives Peter a key to a storage locker with evidence of the fact that Neal is in fact alive. The last scene of the series shows him alive, free, and in Paris.

The gun he had in the sewer never contained real bullets. He also finds the queen of hearts that Mozzie had shown him, which implies that Mozzie knows Neal is alive. The series ends with a shot of Paris. Neal places his trademark Fedora on his head and strolls down the boulevard.
Gold bitterly realizes that August is not his son. The dagger has no magic in this world and Baelfire would know that. But since he has heard about the dagger, Mr. Gold deduces August has come from his world.
