[and] a terrible person... Peeta is manipulative, selfish," with his love for Katniss seeming questionably fake at first. Although generally seen as kindhearted and soft, some of Peeta's earlier actions - especially when he was trying to milk sympathy from the sponsors - seemed self-serving and unkind at first.
Why so evil, Peeta? Well, as we learn at the beginning of Mockingjay (spoilers, obv), he's been brainwashed by a method called “hijacking,” in which Tracker Jacker venom is injected to create hallucinations. In this particular case, he's been brainwashed to hate Katniss.
And, while Peeta's ability to be open, to be himself, and to share his sincere feelings enabled him to manipulate the people around him, it also put him in a position where he could easily be manipulated.
In Mockingjay Part 1, Peeta is brainwashed by the Capital and becomes a villain, attempting to kill Katniss. In Mockingjay Part 2, they finally reach their happy ending and start a family, despite the lasting trauma they've experienced.
He says that the rebels and Capitol supporters must not fight, and he asks everyone to lay down their weapons. The interview ends, but not before Katniss realizes that Peeta's support of a cease-fire makes him a traitor of the revolution.

Does Peeta ever love Katniss again?
It took time for Peeta to break out of that conditioning, and even when the possibility existed that Peeta could be a danger to Katniss, the two of them still elected to be together and build a future in a post-Hunger-Games world. Their love for one another is evident.
At times she's convinced that he's scheming, deceiving her and the others; at other times, she thinks that he might be acting out of kindness, which is more dangerous to her since she knows she won't be able to kill a kind Peeta Mellark. The image of the dandelion returns.
Later, the two learn President Snow considered their actions to be an act of rebellion against the Capitol. After their last interview, in which the two continue to affect their romantic feelings for one another, Peeta comes to the realization Katniss has staged her love for him all along.
I think the cruelest part was forcing the kids to kill each other. Not to mention making their families watch, making them anticipate and celebrate it, the whole forced "in love" thingy..and more. Just the cruelty of it all.

His mother was abusive, physically beating him whenever he made an error at the bakery. But supposedly his dad was nice, if distant. Peeta also had two brothers who we never learned much about.
I went on the CGI diet, computer-generated images. They just sucked my face down in post-production. There you have it, folks. With the move of a mouse and a stylus, our Peeta was shrunk down via computer cleanse, not juice cleanse.
The only Mellark character included in the films, aside from Peeta, was his mother, who was seen as cruel and abusive. However, the books went a little deeper into the backstory of Peeta's household, including what happened to them during the war between the Districts and the Capitol of Panem.
He has betrayed her and is betraying all of District 12 by buddying up with the Careers, whom she calls the "Capitol's lapdogs." She decides that if the Careers don't kill him, she'd be more than happy to. Then, she wonders why Peeta hasn't told them about her bow and arrow skills yet.
Gale's jealousy towards Peeta stemmed from his feelings for Katniss and his desire to be with her. Even after Katniss became engaged to Peeta, Gale still harbored feelings for her and was unable to fully let go of his jealousy and resentment towards Peeta.
we know he was injected with the tracker jacker serum and conditioned to fear katniss. under the influence of the serum, he was shown footage of her and probably the bombings in district 12 too, so he'd associate her with all these horrible things and believe she's the cause of them.
Who has the most brutal death in The Hunger Games?
Glimmer. Alongside Marvel, Glimmer was a career tribute from District 1 with a tendency for brutality and arrogance. When Katniss is stuck in a tree waiting for the career tributes to give up, she receives the most brutal death in the Hunger Games franchise.
As Katniss gets to know Finnick during the Quarter Quell, she sees he is in fact loyal, dutiful, and caring. For example, despite Mags being a burden on his chances of survival, Finnick does everything he can to keep the eighty-year-old alive because, as we learn, she was his mentor and he genuinely cares about her.
The Cornucopia Bloodbath scene at the start of the hunger games is very intense and quite disturbing. We see children brutally murdered by other kids, although the camera is shaky, making the gore hard to focus on. We see spearing and stabbings and blood splashing out as well as a brief leg amputation.
Katniss here's this and understands that even though she may not love Peeta (then) that it's one less person who has to die. (At least that's what I have always thought.) Katniss realizes that if she pretends to be in love with Peeta people will want the capitol to let them survive.
Katniss rarely sings because it reminds her of her father, but she now remembers a morbid song that her father taught her: “The Hanging Tree.” This moment in the story is significant in multiple ways.
Katniss's focus on survival and her family's safety prevented her from fully considering romance, but her feelings for Peeta and Gale diverged in the end. Katniss ultimately chose Peeta because he understood her trauma and she didn't want to lose him, proving her love for him.
Katniss is at first so angry with Peeta for his comments, believing that he made her look weak, that when they get off on floor 12, she shoves him. He knocks an urn over, shattering it, and then falls and cuts his hands on the shards.
Because Katniss feels betrayed by his request, she realizes that she must have trusted him at some point, but decides that it will be easier now if they stop pretending being friends since they will eventually have to try to kill one another.
