Chamber of Secrets History Built sometime after the founding of Hogwarts in the tenth century by Hogwarts founder Salazar Slytherin. The Chamber housed an ancient Basilisk, which was intended to be used by the heir of Slytherin to cleanse the school of Muggle-born students.
Before leaving the school, Slytherin built this Chamber with the hope of purging the school of those he considered unworthy to study magic. According to legend, the Chamber of Secrets was home to an ancient Basilisk.
Created by the Slytherin architect of the school, the Chamber of Secrets was designed to be Salazar's ultimate revenge. The Chamber would allow the Basilisk to kill off anyone not worthy of being in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The idea of tolerance within a community is highly important in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The plot of the novel explores this idea through Salazar Slytherin's intention to wipe out "mudbloods," or wizards with non- magical ancestors, from Hogwarts.
Slytherin, in his spite of his fellow Hogwarts founders' acceptance of Muggle-borns into the school, left a Basilisk deep in the Chamber in the hope that one day, his true heir would unleash her to purge all those he deemed were unworthy to study magic at Hogwarts.

Why does the Basilisk only obey Voldemort?
Basilisk was Slytherin's monster, who can be controlled only by his descendent. Tom riddle was his direct descendent. While Harry got his ability to speak parseltounge because he had a part of Voldemort's soul in him.
It was also believed that the crow of a rooster could kill the basilisk, and its only natural enemy was the weasel because it is immune to the basilisk's gaze and venom. In any account of the beast, it is thought that the basilisk is a symbol of evil and death.
For most of his life he was a highly respectable founder of Hogwarts and one of the greatest wizards of his time. However, the fact that he left behind a Basilisk in a school to be used to murder Muggle-born students, instantly puts him high on the list of most evil Slytherins.
With no one to claim him as their own, Tom lived in a Muggle-run orphanage where he felt abandoned and unloved. He slowly realized he was different from others and became obsessed with his powers, believing he was unique and elite.
Enemies of the heir, beware". Salazar Slytherin, one of the school's founders, created the Chamber after a dispute with fellow founders on admitting Muggle-born students. Some in the wizarding community disdain Muggle-born wizards like Hermione, believing pure-bloods are superior.

Slytherin didn't trust Muggle-born students, and he expressed his opinion not to accept them at Hogwarts. However, when the other Hogwarts founders didn't agree, Slytherin left the school and did not return again but not before creating the Chamber of Secrets and concealing a basilisk inside.
The key to opening the Chamber is Parseltongue; one must say "open" to the entrance in Parseltongue for it to open. The ability to speak to snakes has been linked to Slytherin's descendants, thus the belief that only the true heir of Slytherin can open the Chamber.
It was precipitated when Tom Riddle's Diary (one of Lord Voldemort's Horcruxes) possessed first year Ginny Weasley and forced her to open the Chamber of Secrets and write frightening messages on the walls. As the 1992–1993 school year came to an end Riddle forced her into the Chamber itself.
Albus showcases many Slytherin traits, such as a great ambition, cunning, and resourcefulness. Out of Harry and Ginny's three children, Albus is the one most like his father.
Then on 2 May 1998, he was killed after his own killing curse backfired and slain him once and for all. Calculating this duration, Voldemort was 71 years 4 months 2 days when he died. Given the average age of a wizard is about 100 years, Voldemort died pretty early.

In the case of Salazar Slytherin vs Voldemort, the Hogwarts founder comes out on top. Tom Riddle may have been the Heir of Slytherin, but it seems like a safe bet to assume that the Dark Lord probably couldn't defeat Salazar.
Rowling has stated in an interview that Hagrid was in Gryffindor house during his time as a student. When he comes into possession of an acromantula, he is expelled from Hogwarts as his pet is believed to be the "monster of Slytherin".
In 1993, Harry Potter stabbed the roof of the Basilisk's mouth with the Sword of Gryffindor and ended up getting a fang splintered into his arm. Tom Riddle described the venom as being able to kill Harry in a little more than a minute, though Fawkes's tears healed Harry's arm and cleansed the poison.
She was killed in 1943 by the Serpent of Slytherin, which had been released by Tom Riddle. After the incident, she became a ghost who haunted the second-floor girls' bathroom (and occasionally other bathroom facilities) at Hogwarts.
This would mean that the basilisk was not only a Horcrux but as near to being Slytherin himself as anything could be. As Salazar Slytherin's direct descendent, Tom Riddle could also use the connection to the Hogwarts founder's soul to control the basilisk, while other Parseltongues could not.
