There were many rumors about why Catherine Hicks didn't reprise her role as Karen Barclay in the sequel with the popular being that she was pregnant by her husband Kevin Yagher who operated the animatronic Chucky doll, but the simple fact was that the director John Lafia wanted to take the story in a new direction.

In the Child's Play comic series, Karen is sent to a state hospital because the police did not believe her story of Chucky and Mike and Jack refused to back her up. After supposedly killing the doll once again, she is arrested and put on trial for murdering her psychiatrist, which in reality was Chucky's doing.
In Child's Play 2, she is written out of the story when she was taken away to an insane asylum when no one believes her about the murderous doll. She appears only in the first film and is mentioned in the second, third, and sixth films.

As Season 3 of Syfy's “Chucky” went on hiatus last year, horror's most iconic doll was at a crossroads, having been infected with a form of Catholic magic during an exorcism that began an accelerated aging process.
Despite being a doll, he has spent so long in his doll body that he has turned anatomically human. Chucky can also bleed and feel pain just like a normal human and can be easily overpowered, due to be around the same height as a young child.
But the first movie showed it as something more parasitic since Andy could never escape the pint-sized tormentor. At first, Chucky wanted to use Andy's body as a vessel for his soul, but the more Andy fought back, the more he became another name on Chucky's hit list.

In Toy Story 3, Andy Davis (Morris), now 17 years old, is going to college. Woody (Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Allen), and the other toys are accidentally donated to Sunnyside Daycare, a daycare center, by Andy's mother (Metcalf), and the toys must decide where their loyalties lie.
As Andy's mom's first name is never once mentioned, there's a chance that it could be Emily. It's revealed in the animated series that Andy's mom's last name is Davis, but also Emily's last name isn't revealed. So, in theory, both Jessie's owner and Andy's mom are named Emily Davis.
Mrs. Davis (voiced by Laurie Metcalf) is Andy and Molly's single mother. Mrs. Davis is presented as a loving mother to Andy and Molly, but is a major though indirect threat to the toys. Mrs. Davis's actions regarding the toys sets the plot in motion in the first three films, though they are not malicious.
