8K video has yet to come to any streaming, broadcast, or physical media. Shows and movies still need to be shot, mastered, and distributed in 8K at a significant rate. We'll be waiting another few years for native 8K content to become available to consumers.

And it's encouraging to see that the heavyweights Amazon Prime Video, Google, IMAX and Roku are part of the 8K Association. Though you can't watch your favorite shows and movies in 8K on Amazon Prime, Netflix or Disney+ today, that doesn't mean you can't experience the benefits of an 8K TV.

16K resolution is a display resolution with approximately 16,000 pixels horizontally. The most commonly discussed 16K resolution is 15360 × 8640, which doubles the pixel count of 8K UHD in each dimension, for a total of four times as many pixels.
8K offers 4 times as many pixels than 4K and a staggering 16 times as many pixels compared to a 1080p TV. Ultimately, more pixels results in a sharper, clearer image and 8K offers up an impressive 160 pixels per inch (PPI), delivering a truly smooth and crisp image.
For a person with 20/20 vision, while sitting 10 feet away, one would need about a 75-inch display-diagonal for HD, 120-inch for 4K, and a whopping 280 inches for 8K to be able to distinguish the resolution!
So, unless you're one of those people who only settle for the very best, you don't need 8K now. For those who can afford it and don't mind the lack of native 8K content, 8K vs. 4K screens are noticeably better, even when upscaling 4K media.
8K's problems essentially fall into three baskets: price, screen size, and content. While prices will doubtless come down over time, it's not a problem that can be magicked away. Higher-resolution screens require more pixels, and it's worth reflecting on just how many pixels are in an 8K television.
What you need to know. Version 1.54 of the official YouTube VR app on the Meta Quest now supports 8k (4320p) SDR video. HDR video is still limited to 4K. Google is likely laying the groundwork for the YouTube VR app to run at 8K on higher-resolution Android XR headsets, which will come later this year.
Clearly fitting 8K's 7640 x 4120 pixel count into self-emissive screens is quite the challenge. The third big argument against 8K is that it doesn't deliver enough of a discernible picture quality benefit to justify its expense. In fact, some say it makes no difference at all from regular viewing distances.
8K resolution on an OLED TV? So far, only LG is really doing it. And we wish more firms did, because it's incredible. The picture quality is stunning, the colours and brightness are just what you'd expect from a high quality OLED and the audio output is impressive for such a slim set.
No. There are very few streaming services that offer the ability to stream at 8K resolutions. Amazon Prime does, however, offer the option to stream at 4K resolutions.
Most people sit about nine feet away from their TV. The optimal distance for viewing 8K on a 65” screen is only two feet. In order to sit nine feet away from your television and enjoy 8K optimal viewing distance, you would need a between 275” to 280” 8K screen.
Recommended minimum distance for viewing 4K or 8K TV is 1.5 times of the TV vertical screen size. Viewed from this distance, individual pixels cannot be differentiated by naked eyes. This means that pixels effectively disappear when viewing 4K images.
Can a human tell the difference between 4K and 8K?
The increased pixel count in 8K TVs results in an even sharper and more detailed image than 4K. However, the difference may not be as noticeable to the human eye, especially on smaller screens or from a far viewing distance.
There isn't much 8K content accessible. It's more pricey than 4K displays. Also, it's not ideal for smaller TVs; a small screen wouldn't show any difference in the picture. If playback doesn't begin shortly, try restarting your device.
Considering that the PS5 is renowned for its graphical prowess and its fast performance, it can be frustrating for many to learn that the console does not output at 8K.
12K contains more pixels in the images. Therefore it must be downsampled to support a lower resolution in order to fit for viewing. The obvious benefits to filmmakers when using a 12K or other high resolution camera (e.g. 4K, 6K, 8K, etc.)
They are also currently working on developing a 32K display. Currently, it is possible to run 32K resolutions using multi-monitor setups with AMD Eyefinity or Nvidia Surround using 16 8K TVs or monitors. However, this type of setup is costly and difficult to implement.
32K resolutions are technically possible, but there are not currently any 32K TVs. In fact, it's unlikely that 32K TVs will ever enter the mass market. They would need to be incredibly large, and they would also be very expensive.
