The titular main character of The Sandman is Dream, also known as Morpheus and other names, who is one of the seven Endless. The other Endless are Destiny, Death, Desire, Despair, Delirium (formerly Delight), and Destruction (also known as 'The Prodigal').
The name Morpheus is from Greek mythology, the god of dreams and sleep. He's one of the sons of Somnus and appears in dreams in a human form. It's evident that Lord Morpheus adopted this name thousands of years earlier, letting human imaginations help define him.
Like the comic, The Sandman tells the story of Dream / Morpheus, the titular Sandman. The series stars Tom Sturridge as the title character, with Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong, and Patton Oswalt in supporting roles.

Is Morpheus Sandman good or bad?
In the comics, the Sandman is neither good nor bad. He has a lot of power and responsibility as the authority of dreams and nightmares. Still, throughout his story, he makes many questionable decisions and displays a frequently shifting moral compass.
In so doing, Morpheus renders himself defenceless. By the time he returns the Kindly Ones are in the heart of the Dreaming. Morpheus summons his sister Death, who kills him. Morpheus dies.
The Kindly Ones arrived, but Dream would not fight them, he allowed them to destroy him in order to save the Dreaming, and Death took Dream. Dream's role in the Endless was assumed by Daniel.
He shaped and formed the dreams, through which he could appear to mortals in any form. This talent made Morpheus a messenger of the gods able to communicate divine messages to sleeping mortals. Though he could take any human form, Morpheus's true form was that of a winged demon.
There are, however, a few crucial differences — the first being that, in the show, Calliope was once Morpheus's wife, rather than just his lover. In the original comics, the two were never married.

Desire hates Dream because they desire to be like Dream and wish the Threshold was more like the Dreaming. Not only does Desire hate that Dream looks down upon them despite dreams merely being "echoes of desire and despair," but Desire also aspires to be like Dream is to others.
However, despite his unassuming appearance as a skinny Goth, Dream of the Endless is far more powerful than Superman and easily one of the most powerful beings in the DC Comics multiverse.

Was Morpheus a Good God? Although he resided in the Underworld in a cave filled with opium poppies, he could bestow upon those in slumber both peaceful images and nightmares, although not as much the latter as his brother Icelos. Overall, though, he appears to be a lesser god.
Morpheus had other lovers, including Calliope, the muse of poetry, Titania, Alianora, and Thessaly, until 1916, when he was imprisoned in an occult ritual.
The reason why Death didn't intervene to help Dream when he was captured is never addressed by The Sandman. Perhaps the obvious reason is that Death, like Dream and the rest of the Endless, is bound by her duties and responsibilities to every living being in the universe.
Gaiman offered another explanation in The Sandman Companion for none of the other Endless being willing to rescue Dream: his pride. Gaiman reasoned that they all knew Dream well enough to predict that he wouldn't have been grateful for their aid. If anything, Dream would have been angry with them.
He is reluctant, but his son is the only oracle that can tell him where to find Destruction. Orpheus tells Dream Destruction's location, but in return, he asks a boon of his father; that Dream kill him. At the end of Brief Lives, Dream finally grants Orpheus the boon, and ends his son's life.
In order to save Rose, Unity asks her to give up whatever makes her the dream vortex. Rose withdraws the power from her chest, which takes the form of a ruby heart that then cracks as Unity dies peacefully in her sleep. The dream vortex dies with her, and Rose awakens with her brother, Jed, sleeping next to her.
