Despite their name, Crichton heavily based the Velociraptors on the larger Deinonychus, and this was carried over into the films. The on-screen raptors were created using several production methods, including animatronics by Stan Winston and CGI by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM).
Deinonychus was the model for the “raptor” dinosaurs of the motion picture Jurassic Park (1993). The name raptor has come to apply to dromaeosaurs in general as a contraction for Velociraptor, a genus of dromaeosaur that was considerably smaller than Deinonychus.
Velociraptors in Jurassic Park are significantly larger than velociraptor fossils would indicate. This is because the creatures portrayed in Jurassic Park are actually modeled after another dinosaur called deinonychus. In the novel, Dr. Grant tells Tim that the deinonychus is a type of velociraptor.
In fact, the raptors that terrorized Jurassic Park were based on a Velociraptor relative: Deinonychus antirrhopus, a much larger dinosaur that inhabited North America in the early Cretaceous period, about 145 to 100 million years ago.
Other animals Deinonychus lived alongside with in its environment include herbivorous dinosaurs such as the huge armored Sauropelta, the ornithopods Zephyrosaurus and Tenontosaurus, and the large theropod Acrocanthosaurus, as well as the crocodilians Goniopholis and Paluxysuchus.

Are Deinonychus and Velociraptor the same?
Some dromaeosaurs have the word 'raptor' in their names, such as Velociraptor, Bambiraptor and Utahraptor. But there are many others that don't, including Deinonychus and Achillobator. That's why it's misleading to call them all raptors. Deinonychus was a close relative of Velociraptor.
Why are Velociraptors in Jurassic Park inaccurate?
Another thing Jurassic Park gets wrong about raptors is that they were scaly beasts like the modern lizard. Instead, these dinosaurs actually had feathers. It's hypothesized their feathers helped them regulate their body temperature and improved their running tactics.
It was a bipedal, feathered carnivore with a long tail and an enlarged sickle-shaped claw on each hindfoot, which is thought to have been used to tackle and restrain prey. Velociraptor can be distinguished from other dromaeosaurids by its long and low skull, with an upturned snout.
Much of this dinosaur's fame comes thanks to the Jurassic Park movies, which featured large beasts referred to as Velociraptors. In reality, however, they were much smaller — somewhere between a chicken and a fox in size. The film-famous version was instead based on another Dromaeosaur, called Deinonychus antirrhopus.
Ostrom said that Crichton based the novel's Velociraptors on Deinonychus in "almost every detail", but ultimately chose the name Velociraptor because he thought it sounded more dramatic. Crichton's version of the animal, depicted at 6 feet (1.8 m) tall, was carried over into the film adaptation.
This means that it was Delta that was tazed. In the Jurassic World Special Edition Junior Novelization Delta is the first raptor of the Jurassic World Velociraptor Pack to die instead of Charlie. Furthermore, due to her death in the novelization, Echo is the one that kills Hoskins instead of Delta.

Deinonychus itself measured about 10 feet (3 meters) long and weighed 100–150 pounds (45–68 kilograms). It was about 6 feet (1.8 meters) high. The head of Deinonychus was large, and the powerful jaws were filled with sharp, jagged teeth that curved backward.
Paleontologist Jack Horner, who served as the science adviser for all five "Jurassic Park" movies, said the depiction of the T. rex is far from reality, too. The real T. rex was likely colorful and bird-like, preferring opportunistic scavenging to chasing down prey.

Why didn't the Raptors in Jurassic Park have feathers?
The makers of the original Jurassic Park movies couldn't have added feathers to their dinosaurs even if they wanted to, argues Vickery. “You could barely do the dinosaurs,” he says. “They achieved a fantastic thing in 1993 to create animated dinosaurs but feathers might have been a no-go.”
Velociraptor was “not really in the same league” as top predators like T. rex and Spinosaurus, says Cullen. They were “smarter and smaller, but still pretty fearsome.”
