It's not needed. Season 3 carries over a Picard original character, and Seven and then dumps everything else in favour of things you'll be familiar with. just wondering since i got tired of Star trek time travel shenanigans ever since Voyager and even in Enterprise.

I actually really liked all three seasons. Patrick Stewart doesn't miss a beat as an aging Picard and the show has a lot of solid supporting characters to make the show that much better. Definitely would recommend to any Trekkers out there or just sci-fi fans in general.
