If you're not interested in the Boba Fett spinoff, the good news is that you can jump right into Episode 5 and be completely fine. Mando literally takes over the whole show. Episode 6 is equally as The Mandalorian-centric and continues the story from the previous episode, so you'll also be fine there.
So, yeah, unfortunately, if you did not watch The Book of Boba Fett but are an avid watcher and enjoyer of The Mandalorian, you will be a bit lost when you see Grogu and Mando back together at the start of today's season-three premiere.
Boba Fett is a famed bounty hunter. At one point in his career, he worked for Jabba the Hutt, who tasked him to hunt down Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon. This is where he gets to work with Darth Vader and the rest of the Empire. He eventually captured Han Solo at the Cloud City of Bespin.
It's not the greatest Star Wars series made, especially after watching how good The Mandalorian and Andor were, but it's still worth a watch. Like those shows it has a big budget movie feel to it. It just looks and feels bigger than a tv show.
Mando and Grogu appear in Episode 5, "The Return of the Mandalorian," Episode 6,"From the Desert Comes a Stranger," and in parts of Episode 7, "In the Name of Honor." You can essentially watch the Mando/Grogu parts of the show without any needed knowledge as to what's going on in the Boba Fett portion of the show.
Fortunately for fans, in order to be up-to-date with what happened between the end of season 2 and the beginning of season 3, only the last three episodes of 'The Book of Boba Fett' need to be watched.
Is Grogu Yoda? According to the events of "The Mandalorian" so far, Grogu and Yoda are not the same character. They are simply from the same species. The name of this species has never been revealed since "Star Wars" creator George Lucas wanted to give Yoda a sense of mystery.
Why is book of Boba Fett so bad compared to Mandalorian?
While perhaps a few flashback episodes detailing Fett's escape from the Sarlacc Pit could have been an interesting way to flesh out his complete history in The Mandalorian, it didn't provide enough narrative material to justify another show entirely. Critics took note of the show's inability to match its potential.
Now that both first seasons of these Star Wars shows are in the books, I tend to agree with the notion that the Mandalorian is a cooler and far more interesting version of Boba Fett. One of my complaints for “The Book of Boba Fett” is that much of the show lacks diversity of setting.
Should I watch Boba Fett before or after Mandalorian?
It's best to watch Boba Fett after The Mandalorian, however, because there's so much crossover between the two series -- and one of the episodes serves as a sort of pilot for The Mandalorian season 3.
As a result, Boba's show had nothing left to build on. Din Djarin had taken up Boba's space in the franchise, and as The Book of Boba Fett was essentially a spinoff of The Mandalorian, Star Wars forced it to push Din and Grogu's stories forward as well.
While seemingly killed in Return of the Jedi after falling into a sarlacc, he has since appeared in Star Wars media set after the film, confirming his survival within the new canon, portrayed by Temuera Morrison.
With his customized Mandalorian armor, deadly weaponry, Boba Fett was once regarded as one of the most fearsome and capable bounty hunters in the galaxy. An unaltered genetic clone of his father, bounty hunter Jango Fett, Boba learned combat and martial skills from a young age.
Boba Fett's Disney+ series was a curious addition to the Star Wars canon. The Book of Boba Fett trailers constantly teased the bounty hunter's rise to becoming Daimyo on Tatooine. However, the series was more about Boba Fett's backstory and updating the character.
So in the end, While Boba Fett had the more destructive arsenal, and had more experienced, Mando just had the better armour armour, the skill, and the versatility to take Down Boba Fett. Boomstick: Looks like Mando, is the greatest bounty hunter of all time! the winner, IS THE MANDALORIAN!!!!
In terms of combat skills, Jango has the upper hand. He has undergone rigorous training under bounty hunters like Hondo Ohnaka, Duros Cad Bane, Aurra Sing, and Zam Wesell. Boba may seem cooler in fighting, but his father is more skillful than him in hand-to-hand combat.
"Boba Fett is a clone, according to Attack of the Clones, and by asking George Lucas, he would say Boba Fett is not Mandalorian, not born on Mandalore," said director Dave Filoni to Entertainment Weekly. "He's more of a person indoctrinated into it, into the way of life, and gets a hold of the armor."
Mangold knew his darker approach would probably scare off Lucasfilm executives, but it was the eventual box office failure of “Solo” that put a pin in his Boba Fett movie.
Boba Fett Failed To Develop Its Starring Character Or A Narrative Focus. Unfortunately, The Book of Boba Fett failed to do this, in large part because of a lack of focus that meant Boba Fett's new status quo was never really explored.
The Book of Boba Fett was a fundamentally weird show. The story was too drawn out in some places, but somehow not fully explained in others. It had some incredible narrative moments, but most of them were centered around another Star Wars character's story.
Grogu's mother is either Yaddle or some other female member of Yoda's species, but he has no father. Because just like Anakin, Grogu was born off the Will of the Force, with no dad, and that explains why he's so powerful at an age that's considered an infant for Yoda's species.
