Where I live, this movie had an age rating of M, which means mature. I feel like this movie should be 13+ due to these scenes. It also had alot more swearing compared to the other installments.

In this movie there was an exorcism scene where it can be really scary to those who are under 12. There are no inappropriate scenes however the movie can be disturbing to some people because they talk about suicide,ghosts,etc.
When the movie opened with the original Insidious creepy sound of high-pitched instruments, I was very excited. I sat back and prepared to enjoy the ride. And did I ever. At the conclusion, I immediately knew that this installment was more horrifying than the first one.
The demon chases them to the red door and Josh stays behind to keep it shut so Dalton will be safe. Dalton returns to his body and paints over his red door painting with black paint, which in turns seals the real door and The Further. Josh meets his father's spirit, who guides him back to the living world.
In addition, the first Insidious movie has a whopping 24 jump scares. There are many reasons to feel these movies are some of the scariest, from the plausible storyline of out-of-body experiences to the from-start-to-finish terror, but it's the jump scares that really set this franchise apart.
Despite the PG-13 rating, Insidious is the scarier film compared to the R-rated The Conjuring film. However different the films are, there is a clear distinction when it comes to the horror in each. The long-lasting tension that remains after Insidious is much more prevalent than in The Conjuring.
And another added: "Insidious scary as f***. I'm still trying to stay up because I don't want to have nightmares." This isn't the only film that has given streaming users nightmares. Netflix fans have been left "terrified" and "wetting themselves" after watching horror movie Run.
Unlike those two long-running franchises, Insidious movies are always rated PG-13, de-emphasizing gory intensity but providing plenty of nasty frights.
11-13 year olds may be better equipped to navigate the scary movie scene on some level but each child is different. If your child watches something that they say is not scary to them but then starts coming to you at night wanting to sleep closer to you or is having nightmares let their behavior speak for them.
Can I watch Insidious: The Red Door without watching the others?
For those who aren't able to watch the other movies before seeing Insidious: The Red Door, don't fret. Insidious 5 should still hold up as a standalone experience with plenty of frightening moments and a clear battle between good and evil. There is also the potential for a recap of past movies from the main characters.
