Anakin Solo was the next EU character to meet his end in the Yuuzhan Vong War, sacrificing himself in Troy Denning's Star by Star to save his Jedi friends and family. As Han and Leia's youngest child, Anakin's sacrifice was especially shocking and heartbreaking, especially after his character arc in The New Jedi Order.
Anakin's life is a story about the rise of a promising Jedi and his following fall into the darkness, concluding with his own sacrifice to finally find redemption.
And he's already murdered Mace Windu at Palpatine's behest, more or less by stabbing the Jedi in the back. The canonical comic Star Wars: Darth Vader #7 confirms the younglings' deaths caused Anakin grief, self-loathing, hatred, and pain, fueling his descent even further into the Dark Side.

An older Dark Horse Comics story provides the best explanation for Anakin getting his scar from Asajj Ventress. George Lucas stated the scar symbolizes Anakin's growth as a Jedi Knight and first steps towards the dark side.

Anakin's vision did come true, as Padmé, heartbroken by her husband's downfall, loses her will to live and succumbs while giving birth to twins. Before her death, Padmé still believed there was still good left in Anakin and that one day he could be saved with the help of their children.
When Anakin had to choose between losing Padme — fearing that she might die in childbirth — or turning to evil to “save” her from death, he chose evil. His desire to “save” her at all costs led Anakin to the dark side. For him, the dark side became a means of saving his loved one.
As an addendum to what Infantry said: Sidious didn't ask to the med droids to put anesthesia in Anakin on purpose. He wanted him awake in order to feel the pain during the whole procedure, since pain is part of the Sith philosophy of life.
All in all, Anakin felt incredibly betrayed by two of the most important people in his life. We all know he has quite the abandonment issues, and the fact that Obi-Wan and Padmé leave him is likely the primary cause of his extreme hatred.
