If you've read all the way to the end of A Series of Unfortunate Events (and you'll know if you got there, because the last book is called The End), then you'll be aware that Count Olaf once had a love affair with Kit Snicket, Lemony's sister.
As Olaf is dying, Count Olaf kisses her gently on the mouth, saying that he told her he'd do that one last time, a possible implication that the two were romantically involved before Olaf became a villain. Right before Olaf dies, the two recite a bit of poetry together.
In flashbacks, it is shown that Count Olaf was engaged to Kit Snicket, his father was the chief of the city's official fire department, and his mother had died in a fire. His father was accidentally killed one night at the opera by a poison dart thrown by Beatrice Baudelaire that was meant for Esmé Squalor.
Although this was a long-standing fan theory (his last words are “Kit”), the series finally confirms that the third triplet was Kit's baby daddy, and the father of Beatrice Baudelaire II.

Why was Count Olaf so evil?
While the books imply his parents were murdered, in the TV series, he lost his mother in a fire and his father was later killed by Beatrice, explaining his hatred for the Baudelaire children.
Count Olaf is greedy and will go any lengths to get what he wants, even if it involves murder. He appears in every book of the Series of Unfortunate Events, in some form or another. He is also the archenemy of Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire.
At this point, Kit is about to go into labor. Though she is succumbing to the fungus, she cannot eat the bitter apple due to its unhealthy effects on unborn babies. When the dying Olaf hears that she is still alive, he uses his last effort to get her safely down onto the beach, where he kisses Kit and dies soon after.
We can assume that Beatrice at one time believed that Snicket was dead. When Lemony was revealed to be alive, she had already married Bertrand and she could not marry him.
He has two younger siblings, Lemony Snicket and Kit Snicket. He was murdered in jail as he was about to be burned at the stake by Count Olaf (disguised as Detective Dupin), who intended to frame Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire.
Count Olaf disguises himself as Kit Snicket in an attempt to sneak onto the island; he claims to be very pregnant (though he asks for alcohol), having been looking for the Baudelaires, and at one point claims to be Olaf's girlfriend.
At some point between the night at the opera and her appearance in the second season, Kit and Dewey became romantically involved, and she became pregnant with his child. The two planned to leave VFD together and raise their child somewhere far away.
She was also a former love interest of Count Olaf, although it is unknown whether he became her boyfriend because he loved her, or because she would help him with his schemes.
Olaf did burn down the mansion but the Baudelaire parents' death had nothing to do with the fire, as at least one of them escaped the fire. Olaf was coerced into killing the Baudelaire parents and was only an accomplice to the murder.
However, it is implied that Olaf eventually found out Beatrice was his father's killer. Olaf tried to exact revenge on Beatrice. He tried to kill Beatrice at a V.F.D. party by shoving her off a balcony, but the wings of her dragonfly costume worked.
The scene is in the first book, The Bad Beginning, when Baudelaire is tricked into marrying Count Olaf; she thought it was just pretend, he intended it to be real. A judge reviewed the validity of the marriage: “Justice Strauss took the document in her hand and read it quickly.
And the big question, did the Baudelaires survive fleeing the island? Yes, and they lived on to raise Kit Snicket's child to be a new kind of volunteer. A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS Credit: It makes sense that a TV show would have a more traditionally satisfying ending than a series of very weird books from the '00s.
Do the Baudelaires get a happy ending in the books?
In the final installment of the books, The End, the Baudelaire children, Count Olaf, and Kit Snicket end up on an island. Olaf and the children manage to escape from a trial for the death of Dewey Denouement and climb aboard a boat together.
Beatrice and Snicket were childhood friends and were both part of a secret society called V.F.D. (Volunteer Fire Department). The two fell in love and almost married. However, Beatrice rejected Snicket's proposal and wrote him a 200-page book explaining why.

No matter how dark the world may seem, there are good, noble people in it who will do the right thing. But in the final episode, as the villain Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) dies, he manages to break that one ideal not with deeds, but with his own carefully chosen words.
Was Count Olaf truly as bad as the Baudelaires make him out to be? Of course. He was very much the Evil Villain of a great many children's stories. His sole purpose was to obtain his own selfish wishes and to render as much misery as he could to the kids in the process.
