Disney's Frozen 2 features Elsa (Idina Menzel) hearing a mysterious voice calling to her throughout the movie, and despite confusion among audiences it has been definitively confirmed it belongs to her mother, Iduna (Evan Rachel Wood).
While the voice was calling Elsa to reveal her past to her, it was ultimately revealed that Queen Iduna (Evan Rachel Wood) - Elsa's mother - had a lot to explain as well. This, coupled with the reveal that the call was Iduna all along, means Elsa was hearing the voice of her long-lost mother.
Why did Elsa stay with her mother's people in Frozen 2?
Since Elsa is more closely linked to her mother's side of the family and the enchanted forest, she realizes that she truly belongs with the Northuldra, and abdicates the throne of Arendelle.
The call led her to Ahtohallan, where Elsa was able to discover her true calling and the truth about the curse placed on the Enchanted Forest. Elsa discovered that the call was used by Iduna to summon the Wind Spirit to save Agnarr.
Because of the kingdom's negative feelings towards the Northuldra, Iduna kept her heritage a secret for many years, though she finally told him everything shortly before their deaths. Agnarr and Iduna's oldest daughter (Elsa) was born with the power to control ice and snow.
While they're in there, Anna and Elsa also discover another twist: They're half-Northuldran. Their mother, it turns out, was a tribe member who saved their father during the battle, escaped with him out of the forest, and later married him.
Anna's parents rush her to the sacred realm, where discussions with the trolls reveal that Elsa was born with her powers/ depigmentation and deafness, rather than them being due to illness or accident. Grand Pabbie troll heals Anna but removes her memories of Elsa's magic.
On February 8, 2023, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Frozen 3 is in the works, along with Toy Story 5 and Zootopia 2. While news of a third Frozen film was a welcome one, we have yet to hear more details about the movie or see a trailer.

No, Elsa and Rapunzel are not twins. However, it seems likely that they are cousins. We see the specifics of Rapunzel's birth in Tangled. The queen of Corona must have been Rapunzel's mother, or else the flower's powers could not have transferred to Rapunzel's hair.

Not only is Anna marrying Kristoff, she has Olaf & Sven as well. We also saw at the end of Frozen 2 that their responsibilities are taking them somewhat of seperate ways, although not completely. It only makes sense that Elsa gains her own companion as well.
It's no surprise then that Frozen 3 was confirmed in February of this year, but Disney CEO Bob Iger recently announced that Frozen 4 is in the works as well.
It was after that the decision was made to fully commit to the voice calling to Elsa being that of her mother, Iduna. As Marc Smith, Frozen 2's Director of Story, notes in the documentary, the idea "unifies the movie" since it starts with a flashback featuring Iduna and Agnarr, and it brings those elements together.
Although Elsa's disability is encoded as a magical ice power, the language the film uses to talk about her condition maps on to the experiences of people with physical, mental, and intellectual disabilities in recognizable ways.
