John Bennett has been divorced from Lori Collins for six months. Meanwhile, his best friend, Ted marries his girlfriend, Tami-Lynn. One year later, following a heated argument, his other co-worker, Joy, suggests they have a baby. As Ted cannot father a child, John agrees to help find a sperm donor.
Lori does not return in the sequel. John reveals to Samantha that Lori kept trying to change him into something he was not, which made him realize that although he loved her, they seemed to be wrong for each other; so they ended up getting a divorce.
