Finally in the Hammer of Thor (which takes place roughly 6 weeks after The Hidden Oracle), Annabeth says Percy just needs to finish his last semester and graduate before they help Magnus. So Percy defiantly skipped Junior Year of High School and no one cares.
The prophecy thus comes true in an unexpected way: Percy fails to save what matters most by allowing his mother to save herself. Upon returning to Camp Half Blood, Percy is betrayed by his friend Luke, son of Hermes, who turns out to be the human hero whom Kronos used for the theft.
The novel unfolds during Percy's senior year at Alternative High School in New York — after the action of The Heroes of Olympus, but before The Trials of Apollo. This time around, Percy is not worried about saving the world. He has a much harder quest: getting into college.
Reading Percy Jackson for the FIRST time (not what I expected!)
What grade is Percy in?
In the Lightning Thief, Percy was 12 and in 6th grade. In the Sea of Monsters, Percy was 13 and finishing 7th grade. In the Titan's Curse, Percy was 14 and in the middle of 8th grade.
Percy kisses Annabeth for a long time and then proceeds to tell Annabeth he loves her. They will be attending the same high school for senior year and will then go onto University in New Rome.

The story's narrator, Percy Jackson, will be familiar to most young readers, and here he retells the stories of the Greek Gods with wit and style. This book is appropriate for ages 10+, although some of the stories feature themes that are a bit more mature.
Be aware the book presents some life and death situations and is meant for a slightly older audience, but the violence is not gratuitous. I would say it is appropriate for grades 7-10 (or older).
The movies portray all the characters as roughly the same age, whereas the books feature a 7-year age gap between Luke and 12-year-olds Percy and Annabeth. (Grover is technically 32, but matures at half-speed as he is a satyr.)
