During the time after Katniss' father died in a mining accident, Katniss' family was slowly starving to death. At this time, Peeta threw her two loaves of bread that he burnt on purpose when he saw her looking for sustenance in the bakery's trashcan.
Even though they don't speak and Katniss doesn't consider Peeta a friend, he saves her life when they are 11 and she is starving behind the bakery. He gives her a loaf of bread, one that he burned on purpose, and ever since that moment Katniss has felt like she owes Peeta.
His mother was furious and gave him a nasty black eye, but she also deemed the loaves unworthy of sale and demanded he give them to the pigs. It was all in his plan to help save Katniss, to bring her bread she needed to survive. He laid his own well-being aside for her sake. This was a turning point for Katniss.
Later, the two learn President Snow considered their actions to be an act of rebellion against the Capitol. After their last interview, in which the two continue to affect their romantic feelings for one another, Peeta comes to the realization Katniss has staged her love for him all along.
Unbeknownst to Katniss and Peeta, a rebel plan has been set in place by the other tributes. The plan is to break the victors out of the game and start the rebellion.
Beetee's plan involves his wire, the water, and the tree that is struck by lightning at midnight and at noon. He wants to wrap his wire around the tree and drop the end of it into the water. The theory is that when the lighting hits at midnight, Brutus and Enobaria will be electrocuted.

He jokes with her, whispering that it's okay to kiss him since they're madly in love, but once Katniss begins to clean him in the stream, she can see how weak he is.
Peeta shows Katniss all the kind of bread that is in their bread basket. Every district has their own kind of bread. This shows that every district is different and provides variable things. It also demonstrates that the Capitol owns all of the districts.
we know he was injected with the tracker jacker serum and conditioned to fear katniss. under the influence of the serum, he was shown footage of her and probably the bombings in district 12 too, so he'd associate her with all these horrible things and believe she's the cause of them.

Peeta's mother hit him for burning the bread, and Katniss believes Peeta must have known he would be punished for it. During the Games, he is similarly selfless when he saves Katniss after she comes back to retrieve the bow but finds herself suddenly stunned by the tracker jacker stings.
Why didn't Katniss want Peeta's name called? Because he's one of the few people in her life that has shown her kindness and she never got to thank him for it.

Considering many in district 12 can't afford jewellery, she stands out during a ceremony that's televised to all citizens.
He has betrayed her and is betraying all of District 12 by buddying up with the Careers, whom she calls the "Capitol's lapdogs." She decides that if the Careers don't kill him, she'd be more than happy to. Then, she wonders why Peeta hasn't told them about her bow and arrow skills yet.
Long before Peeta risked punishment from his mother by throwing Katniss some bread, his father had pointed the girl out to him and explained to his son that he had once been in love with her mother.
It took time for Peeta to break out of that conditioning, and even when the possibility existed that Peeta could be a danger to Katniss, the two of them still elected to be together and build a future in a post-Hunger-Games world. Their love for one another is evident.
Katniss is rendered deaf in one ear after she blows up the Careers' supplies, and she doesn't regain any hearing on her left side until afterwards when the Capitol gives her a hearing aid.
Katniss rarely sings because it reminds her of her father, but she now remembers a morbid song that her father taught her: “The Hanging Tree.” This moment in the story is significant in multiple ways.
It's a vial. At first, Katniss thinks it's anti-infection medicine meant to cure Peeta, but she smells and tastes it and recognizes that it's sleep syrup. She understands why Haymitch sent it. She mixes the medicine in with some mashed-up berries and mint leaves and has Peeta eat it.

As a result, Katniss has a difficult time feeling love and affection for her mother, even as she recognizes that her mother is a kind and intelligent woman.
