Obi-Wan then makes a comment that suggests he's more than aware of R2's impressive capabilities.
Neither droid is apt to correct him, especially after his kindness becomes apparent. And in Artoo's case, he's likely all-too aware of Luke's heritage: allowing him to happily serve the young man just as he had Leia before him and Anakin before her.
R2-D2 was built around prior or during 32 BBY. He was one of several astromech droids on Queen Padmé Amidala's Naboo Royal Starship during the invasion of Naboo by the Trade Federation that year.
