Did you know Ben Affleck is bilingual? While speaking about his new movie Air, the Oscar winner showcased his conversationally fluent Spanish in an interview with Spain-based radio network La Cadena SER, which was posted on the outlet's TikTok account on April 3.
After his parents divorced when he was nine, Affleck and his older brother, Ben, lived with their mother and visited their father weekly. He learned to speak Spanish during a year spent traveling around Mexico with his mother and brother when he was ten.
Many others assumed Affleck learned Spanish from his wife, Jennifer Lopez, but as it turns out, he began speaking it as a child. When he was 13, Affleck was cast in a television show that spent a year filming in Mexico. He learned the basics over time, then he continued practicing as an adult.
We went to New York to talk to him about his career and his interest in the Spanish language. To our surprise he was able to answer a few words in our language and confessed to us that in his next movie he will, again, speak Spanish.
