By the time we start Revenge of the Sith he has good banter with Obi-Wan, seems to enjoy the excitement of battle, and gets to see Padme when he's near Coruscant. But he's not truly content deep down. He was mired in conflict because his Jedi vows, the true toll of the war, and Palpatine in his ear.
