When we meet Elsa as a little girl in Frozen, her hair is in a braid. As she gets older and more closed-off from the world, though, her hairstyle changes to become a tighter, more restrictive bun.
It is in this hairstyle that Elsa finally learns to accept herself for who she is and accept her powers. Just as a braid is looser than the complicated updo of the coronation hairstyle but still structured—a balance between the two—Elsa has found a balance in her life.
Elsa's hair has been analyzed a lot, and we all agree that the loosening of her hair (coronation do -> braid -> ponytail -> fully down) represents her self-actualization and sense of internal freedom. Anna's hair actually changes in the opposite direction.
She wears a crystal-blue off-the-shoulder dress made out of ice with a right knee-high slit, a crystallized bodice, and translucent powder blue sleeves. What does Elsa wear on her head?
Elsa's tiara first appears in the Arendelle chapel during Elsa's coronation, when the bishop places it on her head. She keeps the tiara on afterwards until she flees Arendelle to the North Mountain and sings "Let It Go".
Elsa has a condition that makes things she touches become frozen, which can be a good thing – she can create ice castles in the air – and causes problems (she accidentally puts ice into her sister's brain).
Anna's parents rush her to the sacred realm, where discussions with the trolls reveal that Elsa was born with her powers/ depigmentation and deafness, rather than them being due to illness or accident. Grand Pabbie troll heals Anna but removes her memories of Elsa's magic.
There are lots of snowflakes motifs throughout the overcoat, and it's also a great moment because she's one of the few Disney princesses who ever gets to wear pants.
Elsa's (be it Little Elsa's or Let it Go Elsa's) is a beautiful French braid. Neither Elsa or Anna have a Dutch braid, although the team considered double Dutch braids for F2 Anna as seen in The Art Of Frozen 2.
The importance of dress in this film crystallises especially clearly in Elsa's show stopping number 'Let It Go'. Trudging up the mountain away from her kingdom, she remains in her coronation outfit, her thick cloak weighing her down and slowing her ascent, its deep purple colour indicative of her royal ties.
