Escape Room: Tournament of Champions might not have been as much of a hit as the first movie, but the horror sequel gave viewers plenty to talk about when it came out on digital platforms. The main version that was released to watch at home ended up being an extended version of the movie.
Recommended. Some viewers who were re-watching the film were left confused after realising there were two versions of the film. The one on Netflix is the theatrical version and not the extended cut, which was previously released on Sky.

Neither of these versions is too great, none of them is as good as the first Escape Room movie. But still, the extended cut version is BY FAR better story wise. The extended cut develops the main story behind the rooms and kinda moves the story forward.
The twist that somebody was 'alive all along' is an overdone one in horror, and it really felt like the theatrical version didn't move things along and ended in exactly the same place. This alternate cut at least expands the mythology of Minos and offers an interesting tease for the future.
There are two movies and an extended cut; you can watch them in any order. We recommend the first film in the series if you are looking for a good escape room movie. However, if you are only interested in watching an escape room movie for seeing one, the second film is worth watching.
Zoey manages to have survived by taking an oxygen mask from the hospital bed and connecting its tubing through one of the openings created by the disabled cameras. Feigning death when two cleaners enter Room #4 to remove evidence, Zoey incapacitates them and flees.
While the resolution of both versions come down to Zoey (re)discovering her agency, the Extended Cut recontextualizes what audiences know about Manos and establishes an exciting new direction for future sequels in a way that the Theatrical Cut doesn't.
Zoey and Ben actually survive the ordeal, but it doesn't end there. Zoey returns to the site with the police, but there's nothing there. There are no remains of the rooms. She only stares at the wall where a graffiti drawing reads "No Way Out," and she associates the phrase with one of the escape rooms.
Ben Miller and Zoey Davis return to try to take down the Minos Escape Room organization in Escape Room: Tournament of Champions. As a direct sequel to Escape Room (2019), Escape Room: Tournament of Champions (2021) does an admirable job of adding interesting layers to the returning characters in the overall story.
Zoey and Claire succeed in fighting Claire's father off and they save Ben. Claire locks the Minos employees inside the control room, and suggests Zoey report her findings to the police. After Zoey escapes to the original location where she finds Ben in an ambulance, it is revealed that Claire was evil all along.

Escape rooms lend themselves to horror themes tremendously well. There is something so unnatural and unsettling about being locked inside a room with no clear means of escape. Before we even discuss the world of theming for escape rooms, the concept itself can be scary to some.
The cliffhanger ending of Tournament of Champions is a good indicator Escape Room 3's plot will pick up after the orchestrated plane crash in a new escape room complex. In the last film's climax, Zoey and Ben are taking a plane home, thinking that they've thwarted Minos once and for all.
