While people may assume that being a young child would mean that there are no crushes in children's movies, it is always possible that there could be. Coraline may well have a crush on Wybie, but it is never explicit in the movie, and seems that Wybie has more of an interest in Coraline than vice versa.
Once Coraline finds the Other World, she also finds that the Other Mother has created an Other Wybie, with buttons for eyes and his mouth sewn shut. Adding these characters allow viewers to feel more connected to the story, especially when the film introduces the ghost of Mrs. Lovat's sister.
The Beldam learned that the Other Wybie has helped Coraline escape, so she kills and eats him and leaves his remaining clothing hung up on a flag pole on top of the Other Mr.

He is regularly insulted by Coraline because of their first encounter when Wybie startled and knocked Coraline down when she was exploring, trying to find an old well.

The scariest scene in Coraline lives in the book. After Coraline finds two ghost souls, The Beldam gives her a key to the cellar. There, we find what's left of her creation –the Other Father– once he wasn't of anymore use to The Beldam.
The Other Mother is no different. She changes her form to impersonate a child's mother and even has a similar voice to them. The fact that she uses this power to lure helpless children into her world by giving them attention and creating essentially a fantasy world for them is also terrifying.
Coraline's greatest fear at the start of the novel is that her parents do not love her enough, and the Other Mother, whom Coraline meets in the world beyond the bricked-up door, is a frighteningly literal manifestation of Coraline's inner psyche.
The Other Mother makes her final and most vicious attack on the souls of those trapped within her web by controlling their eyes. The eyes are considered the windows to the soul, and the Beldam uses this to her advantage. For Coraline to remain in the world, she must allow her eyes to be stitched over with buttons.
This is NOT a movie appropriate for any 9 year old unless you want them growing up to be a murderer. The beginning of the movie is boring and slow. She meets a boy who finds a doll that looks exactly like Coraline and gives it to her.
