In one of the more controversial Elseworlds universes, the Injustice universe begins when Superman kills The Joker. The Clown Prince of Crime has committed his most diabolical act yet, launching a nuclear attack on Metropolis and taking countless lives in the process.
The horror of what Clark did caused Superman to snap and brutally kill the Joker. But while the Harlequin of Hate died, Superman never recovered from that awful day. Injustice showed Superman at his absolute worst. Clark began a totalitarian regime and attempted to rid the Earth of crime by force.
The Man of Steel meted out violent retribution many times during the Golden Age of Comics, even though the Silver Age toned him down considerably. Nevertheless, he's explicitly killed a few of his enemies since then, with one fellow "Kryptonian" dying by Superman's hands on more than one occasion.

Superman's most baffling defeat came at the hands of Alfred Pennyworth and Muhammed Ali in unexpected circumstances.
The monster battled with Superman throughout Metropolis, dealing significant damage to the city in the process. Superman finally ended the threat by flying the monster high into the atmosphere, and then slamming him into the ground, impacting with the force of a bomb. The blast killed both Superman and Doomsday.
According to one view, Batman and the Joker, who have been fighting for years, end all of their disputes by having a good laugh about it all. Another interpretation, popularized by comic writer Grant Morrison, is that Batman kills the Joker at the end of the story, hence the title "The Killing Joke".
The brutal confrontation concludes with Batman holding the Joker over his head and slamming him down back first against his bent knee. The move is the exact same one that Bane famously used against the Dark Knight in the classic "Knightfall" story of the '90s, and is the final move Zur uses against the clown.

Kara inevitably dies being murdered by Zod. Despite the Flashes attempts to prevent the deaths of Supergirl and Batman, the older Barry concluded that there was no timeline in which Supergirl survived her fight against Zod, something he considered an inevitable Intersection that could not be altered.
The culprit of the murders, thefts and the framing of the Amazons is revealed to be the witch Circe, who "kills" Diana by reverting her form back into the clay she was born from. Later, Wonder Woman is brought back to life and together with Donna Troy, battles Circe and ultimately defeats her.
Lois Lane's death shook Superman greatly; the once pure and benevolent Man of Steel was heartbroken, having been manipulated by the Joker into killing the woman he loved and his unborn child. Worse, the Clown Prince of Crime also tricked him into destroying his home city, Metropolis.
