"Finding Nemo" came out in 2003 and was beloved for its storyline and (somewhat) accurate depiction of life in the ocean. Clownfish really do look like that and live in sea anemones. There is a "whale language" though Dory probably can't speak it.
What is not scientifically accurate in Finding Nemo?
Factual errors. Marlin and Dory are advised to swim to the back of the whale's throat and to be blown out of the whale's blowhole. This is not physically possible as whales' mouths and digestive systems are not connected to their respiratory system and blowhole. Nigel the pelican has nostrils.
Nemo being a figment of Marlin's subconscious makes this all the more believable, with the absent-minded Dory also possibly being a manifestation of Marlin's consciousness as it guides him through the process.
But actually the real East Australian Current is much bigger and much wilder than in the movie – just not so conducive to surfing. It transports a staggering 40 million cubic metres of water southward each second. That is the equivalent of 16,000 Olympic swimming pools flowing along our coastline, every second.
Andrew Stanton wrote and directed the film. The inspiration for Finding Nemo sprang from multiple experiences, going back to director Andrew Stanton's childhood, when he loved going to the dentist to see the fish tank, assuming that the fish were from the ocean and wanted to go home.
According to media reports and conservationists, after Finding Nemo came out, the frenzy to buy the clownfish as a pet plummeted their numbers in the wild. It was dubbed the "Nemo effect," and the idea was also connected to owls from the Harry Potter films and various animals from Zootopia.
Parents need to know that even though there are no traditional bad guys in Finding Nemo, there are still some very scary moments, including large creatures with zillions of sharp teeth, the apparent death of a major character, and many tense scenes with characters in peril.
Of course, Finding Dory isn't a true story. But the characters are based on real sea creatures, the Great Barrier Reef and Morro Bay are real locations and awesome marine aquariums that rescue, rehabilitate and release do exist all over the world. Pearl is a pink flapjack octopus in Disney/Pixar's 2003 animated film, Finding Nemo and its 2016 sequel. She says she has one shorter tentacle than the rest, though this is barely noticeable. Pearl is pink like her father Ted, but unlike him, her face is positioned in the middle.

I headcanon her as having an exaggerated version of ADHD because she gets distracted extremely easily and can't keep her attention on one thing.
Dory was initially supposed to be a male character during the pre-production of the film. Andrew Stanton admits to struggling with a writing block upon the character. That was until he overheard his wife watching an episode of the sitcom Ellen.
Dory suffers from severe short-term memory loss, but a lot of what she goes through can be adapted to other contexts, such as the world, or ocean, of ADHD. Dory has trouble with multi-step directions, is easily distracted, and is very impulsive.
Parents guide: Possibly frightening scenes: This movie definitely has some tense moments for little kids. The opening scene where the barracuda attacks Marlin's family is one you might not want to show the youngest of kids. Even the scene where Nemo gets captured might scare sensitive viewers.
Nemo is a curious and impressionable six-year-old, only child who lives with his overprotective, single-parent father, Marlin. Having led a sheltered life, Nemo brims with the excitement of starting school and finally seeing the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef.
