As an adult, he discovered the Roar of the Elders at Cikha Escarpment, where he trained relentlessly to master its powers. Due to his prowess with the Roar, Askari became the leader of the first Lion Guard and assembled a team of the Bravest, Fastest, Keenest of Sight, and Strongest lions in the Pride Lands.
However, after overthrowing his uncle and becoming king, Simba had two children: Kiara and Kion. Being the second-born, Kion inherited the Roar and assembled the new Lion Guard, but vowed not to use it for evil as his great-uncle did.
Askari's indirect descendant, Scar, was originally named after him before he acquired his facial wound. This is confirmed by series producer Ford Riley, as "Askari" is Scar's birth name in the canon material. In the non-canonical book series The Lion King: Six New Adventures, Taka is Scar's birth name.
She showed herself to be a capable leader, commanding her Guard well and showing strong camaraderie with them, and belied a fierce courage that impressed Kion so that he acknowledged Vitani's worthiness and submitted the Mark of the Guard and the Roar to Vitani, passing the mantle onto her.
According to A Tale of Two Brothers, Scar was the second born son of Ahadi and Uru. He was once named Taka (meaning "waste" or "want" in Swahili). He became upset when he learned his older brother Mufasa was chosen to be king over himself.
Years later when he and his brother are adults, his nephew Simba was born and stripped him of his position as Mufasa's current heir in the process. This was the final straw for Scar, who then allied with the hyenas, one of the Pride Lands's worst enemies from the Elephant Graveyard.
Kovu was originally written to be Scar's son. However, after realizing the incestuous undertones his romance with Kiara would have, the writers scrapped the idea and clarified in the film that he had no biological relation to Scar.

King Simba is the son of Mufasa and Sarabi, the mate of Nala, the father of Chaka, Kopa, Aisha, Kiara, Shani, Kion and Askara and the king of the PrideLands.
But that's not the only reason that Zira killed Kopa... In the Outlanders episode of The Lion Guard Zira states that she brought Kovu to Simba demanding that he be the next king.
When Kion was bit by Ushari, he was left with a scar. The venom from the wound slowly began to seep through him, influencing his decisions and making him lose control of the Roar of the Elders. Rafiki and Makini had Kion eat tuliza so as to calm him down.
In dangerous situations, she tends to obey Kion's commands seen in The Underground Adventure. It is also hinted she has a crush on Kion when she purrs and nuzzles him romantically in Fuli's ending of The Day of the Crocodiles.
When Scar says that he "wouldn't dream" of challenging his brother, a disappointed Zazu asks why not. He retorts by basically saying that he is smarter than Mufasa but concedes that he is no match physically.
Though the venom in his scar may have influenced his evil nature, Scar was already proven to be envious and power-hungry before being infected as he was willing to work with another lion to overthrow Mufasa as king due to his jealousy.
Scar debuted in The Lion King (1994). The scheming younger brother of Mufasa, Scar was next-in-line to take the throne until his nephew Simba, Mufasa's son, was born, replacing him. Determined to seize the throne, Scar devises a plan to kill both Simba and Mufasa.
Director Darrell Rooney stated that Zira was originally conceived as Scar's mate and queen. However, their relationship was purposely obscured in the middle of production to make her "just a follower" due to the incestuous undertones Kovu's romance with Kiara would have had.
The show established that his birth name is Askari, the origin of his scar is from a cobra and he received his nickname of Scar by being belittled by Mufasa. This is a shame, as Scar's original name of Taka had such a clever double meaning.
Despite being the oldest of Zira's children, he is neglected by Zira in favor of Kovu, Scar's chosen heir. It is never explained why Nuka was rejected in favor of Kovu.
