After the ship is disabled by Prometheus getting purposely crashed into it, David warns Shaw that the Engineer is coming for her. David contacts Shaw after she escapes the Engineer and convinces her to retrieve his head and body, so that he may pilot another ship.

In the novelization of Alien: Covenant (which was based on the script) it says the engineers created the Xenomorph. In the Covenant DVD commentary, director Ridley Scott says David created the Xenos.
What Was David's Mission in Prometheus? David's mission was to help Weyland learn not only the meaning of life, but also to help him extend his life by communicating with the Engineers. The reason he infected Holloway with the black goo was that he wanted to test it on a human to see if it was the key to immortality.
According to “Advent”, David killed Shaw after she refused to help David “build a second Eden,” and used her body in his research to create (or recreate depending on your preferred theories) his incarnation of the Xenomorph. “I tried so desperately to make her more than human.
They land on a mysterious planet to investigate only to find that David has killed Shaw in order to use her DNA to develop more aliens and create his own special species. He's also killed all the Engineers for unclear reasons, perhaps also in hopes of creating more aliens.
The Alien Egg appeared in 2017's Alien Covenant. These were David's creations and not exactly the same eggs that we've seen before. They didn't come from a Queen Alien but from David genetically engineering them and therefore look a little different.
His murder of Shaw and subsequent isolation likely played a part in developing his homicidal tendencies, but David was already happy to pull off a mass extinction event before either of those occurred, so the root of his evil is still unclear for viewers.
He poisons Holloway with the black goo, which infected him and traumatized Shaw and Vickers and also infected their baby, he did do this under Weyland's orders but specifically picked Holloway because of his racism towards him.
The Deacon in the film was the result of Shaw having "sexual-relations" with Holloway after he was infected with the black liquid causing Shaw to give birth to an alien creature which later impregnated the Last Engineer as he tried attacking Shaw.
Whatever the cause (presumably revealed in a possible Prometheus sequel), an accident occurred in the facility and the Engineers were wiped out. The dead Engineers found by Millburn and Fifield show signs that they "gave birth" to alien creatures.
The Xenomorph is the iconic monster of the Alien franchise, but chronologically speaking, it wasn't the first, as Prometheus introduced a creature incredibly reminiscent of the classic Xenomorph before promptly forgetting about it.
He then revealed some of the plans he currently had for the future, including experiments on the Covenant crew and his desire to turn Daniels into his new "Queen", as well as sending his sketches and designs of his experiments for Weyland-Yutani's use.
However, unlike the earlier model David, Walter's advanced systems allow him to heal. He catches up with David as he is attacking Daniels. She is able to escape as the two synthetics fight. Ultimately, David wins and assumes Walter's identity.

What happened to Walter at the end of Alien: Covenant?
Walter is also seen winning a vicious battle between the two synthetics, but it's later revealed David won and took Walter's place, suggesting the latter was killed off-screen.
Shortly after the release of Alien: Covenant, Scott explained that as David learns more about his lineage through humanity and the Engineers, "He hates them. He has no respect for Engineers and no respect for human beings," and concludes that eradicating them from existence will be for the betterment of the universe.
Sometime after the events of Prometheus, Shaw was killed by David. She was seen on a table dissected, being experimented on. David claims she died in the crash of the Engineer ship.
David, being an android, was becoming increasingly curious about life, what it is, what it means and where it comes from. He wanted to know what it felt like to create life himself (He even asks Holloway how far he'd go to find answers). Basically, just as Holloway put it, David did it because he could.
In the novelization of Alien: Covenant, David reveals that the Xenomorph species were creations made by the Engineers when he showcased a fossilized Ovomorph to Oram as he states that his intention was recreate a species similar to the Xenomorphs, expressing his desire of playing the role as God.
He was empowered by seeing what the aliens could become and what he could do in aiding reproduce them. That in turn made him become evil. He used the aliens against humans. Some of the aliens then became loyal to David.
The crew of the USCSS Prometheus believed that the abandoned planet they explored was an outpost for weapons engineering and development, lending credence to the theory that the Engineers created the Xenomorphs (or perhaps more specifically, the Black Liquid that led to the Trilobite) for war and genocidal purposes.
It's never actually stated what species Alien: Covenant's Engineers, a.k.a. "Space Jockeys," actually are, as David kills them all with the black goo in a very brief scene.
Alien: Covenant actually credits the Alien as Xenomorph, while also listing a different variety of the creature as the Neomorph. In The Weyland-Yutani Report, the Alien encountered by the Nostromo was specifically referred to as "Xenomorph XX121".

The Praetomorph, also known as the Planet 4 Xenomorph appears in the 2017 movie Alien Covenant, however these two aliens were David's creations using the black liquid and not exactly the same Xenomorphs we've seen previously.
