Unbeknownst to the Republic, Echo actually survived but was gravely injured as he was taken prisoner by Separatist forces, where he was sold to the foreman of the Techno Union, Wat Tambor. Echo was kept alive by being turned into a cyborg, albeit at the cost of his consciousness.
