The puzzle box: In The Hellbound Heart, the box is known as the Lemarchand Configuration, and Frank acquires it from a criminal acquaintance in Düsseldorf, who also tells him a lot about the ceremony he needs to perform in order to summon the Cenobites.
Plot. In Morocco, Frank Cotton, a hedonist, buys a puzzle box said to open the door to a realm of otherworldly pleasure. At home in his bare attic, Frank solves the puzzle and hooked chains emerge, tearing him apart. A black-robed figure resets the puzzle and the room is restored back to normal.
Fictionally, the box was created by Philip LeMarchand, who is mentioned in The Hellbound Heart (the novella upon which the movie Hellraiser was based) as a maker of mechanical singing birds.
One of the standout effects sequences of Hellraiser is the rebirth of Frank, who after being ripped to pieces by the Cenobites in the recent past, is accidentally revived when his brother spills blood on the floor of the attic where he died.
Because Frank didn't actually understand and desire all that Hell was offering. Frank thought he was going to get endless pleasure on his terms. Frank was an amateur, a tourist, a dabbler.

Freddy is a member of the Cenobite council and the rival of Laughing Jack. He is also the most feared and dreaded enforcer of Zalgo, even more so than Pinhead. Freddy is played by Robert Englund.
The original book that it's based on, The Hellbound Heart, was suggestive of a female Pinhead, and the comic books also explored the idea. There's also plenty of fan art, wonderful works that all theorized the possibility of Pinhead as a woman. So it only felt appropriate to us.
In the mythos, only those who are so obsessed with solving a puzzle that can open a gateway (or 'Schism') can be considered. Those who have a taste for the outermost reaches of human experience and have no moral limitations for what they will do to achieve those desires would even be considered to become a Cenobite.
Each of the four primary Cenobites from The Hellbound Heart were featured in the film, with appearances based upon their descriptions in the book. The first Cenobite became Butterball, the second Pinhead, the third Chatterer, and the fourth The Female.
Judgment is the first Hellraiser film to include heaven in its mythology. According to Tunnicliffe, he took influence from The Scarlet Gospels, stating "I am in no way religious, but if you are writing a story that acknowledges the existence of Hell, then you have to acknowledge the existence of Heaven.

To her dismay, Kirsty found the source of her visions was Frank, who had lured her into his own hell to molest her. Spotting an old photo of Frank on a dresser, Kirsty set fire to it, destroying Frank's image and reducing him to his skinless form.
The whole meaning of Hellraiser isn't merely about summoning the Cenobites and having them rip you apart, it's the Hell you raise upon yourself. The Cenobites are merely a guiding hand in the process.
