In the original story, Snow White sleeps in the glass coffin for many years, growing up into a young woman that whole time. In the film, she does so for about one year. In the original fairy tale, Snow White actually wasn't awakened by "love's first kiss".
During the journey, one of the men carrying the coffin trips, and the piece of poisoned apple is dislodged from Snow White's throat. She instantly wakes up, and she and the prince are married.
With the third gift, a poisoned apple, Snow White falls into a deep sleep, and the dwarfs leave her in the forest, fearing that the king would accuse them of killing her once he comes back.
Instead of dying, the Princess will fall into a deep sleep for 100 years and be awakened by a king's son ("elle tombera seulement dans un profond sommeil qui durera cent ans, au bout desquels le fils d'un Roi viendra la réveiller"). This is her gift of protection.
Who woke up after a long sleep when Prince kissed her?
His version of the story is the first to have Sleeping Beauty woken up by a kiss from her prince and the infamous spinning wheel that causes her to sleep one hundred years. It is far darker than the tale that is most known today, called Briar Rose, written by the Brothers Grimm.

How long was Aurora sleep for?
In the original fairy tale, the princess actually sleeps for 100 years before she is finally awakened by the prince's kiss; this detail was adjusted for the film in favor of having Prince Phillip introduced earlier, and thus Aurora is awakened much sooner.
