Pluto the big, goofy dog, of Disney fame, is how old? You guessed right if you said 85 years old. Walt Disney Productions created Pluto the Pup as Mickey Mouse's pet dog in 1930.
February 18 marks the “birthday” of Pluto, a celestial body that has given astronomers great difficulty over the past 83 years. A nameless mystery planet emerged as a theory in the 19th century, after astronomers discovered the planet Neptune, based on irregularities in the orbit of Uranus.
For one of the world's most famous dogs, Pluto started out with a dizzying variety of identities. After The Chain Gang, Pluto popped up in his rightful role as household pet in The Picnic (1930)—but he was named Rover and belonged not to Mickey but to Minnie.

Clarabelle has also made appearances in the preschool series Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and is featured as Goofy's girlfriend (in which she owns a puppy named Bella) and in the direct-to-video movie Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers as Pete's lieutenant and Goofy's love interest.
Bottom line: Pluto officially received its name on May 1, 1930. A girl in Oxford, England – 11-year-old Venetia Burney – suggested Pluto, a classical mythological god of the underworld and in honor of Percival Lowell, whose early efforts led to Pluto's discovery.
Venetia Burney Phair was an accountant and taught economics and math in England. But she will best be remembered for what she accomplished at age 11 – giving Pluto its name. In an interview with NASA in January 2006, Phair said she offered the name Pluto over breakfast with her mother and grandfather.

The most widely accepted and probable theory is that Goofy has evolved from a dog, but Pluto was unable to do so. Another theory is that Disney animators wanted to flex their wide-range of skills by creating the same animal in two completely different ways.

Namesake. The ice giant Neptune was the first planet located through mathematical calculations. Using predictions made by Urbain Le Verrier, Johann Galle discovered the planet in 1846. The planet is named after the Roman god of the sea, as suggested by Le Verrier.
Pluto is more than twice the diameter and a dozen times the mass of Ceres, the largest object in the asteroid belt. It is less massive than the dwarf planet Eris, a trans-Neptunian object discovered in 2005, though Pluto has a larger diameter of 2,376.6 km compared to Eris's approximate diameter of 2,326 km.
At the time of Pluto's discovery, it was considered to be a planet (it is now classified as a dwarf planet). Being very cold and the farthest from the Sun, Pluto was named after the Roman god of death. According to Roman myth, when someone died, they traveled down to the Underworld.
By 1951, Goofy was portrayed as being married and having a son of his own. Neither the wife nor the son was portrayed as dog-like. The wife's face was never seen, but her form was human. The son lacked Goofy's dog-like ears.
