According to the backstory revealed in the episode, Khan is one of a group of genetically engineered superhumans, bred to be free of the usual human mental and physical limitations, who were removed from power after the Eugenics Wars of the 1990s.

Khan's ingenuity and unorthodox thinking is driven primarily by base emotions, and that would have been a problem for a pre-chipped Data to deal with. Without the benefit of being able to guess his opponent's next nutty move, Data may have found himself overwhelmed by Khan's strategies.

During the fight, Khan overconfidently boasted that he had five times the man's strength, ergo Kirk was no match for him. When it became clear that Kirk could not defeat Khan hand-to-hand, Kirk pulled loose a heavy flow-control rod and used it to subdue him.

Lifespan. The Vulcan lifespan is longer than that of humans. Vulcans have been known to live over 200 years, though there has been cases where 250 or 300 can occur. After reaching adulthood, the aging process of Vulcans slowed a great deal.

In the end, Data never becomes a villain like Lore nor the evil version of himself in the upside-down universe despite having emotions. He even selflessly sacrifices his life to save his crew and friends in Star Trek: Nemesis.
Owing to his genetically enhanced brain, Khan was able to learn the schematics of the original Enterprise quickly enough to take it over in a few days. Following his exile on Ceti Alpha V, Khan was able to figure out ways for him and his people to survive, even after a cataclysm destroyed the planet's atmosphere.
Humans had no true specialty or extraordinary qualities and were average in both a technological and physical sense. Because Humans were the Federation species most interested in space exploration, they made up a large majority of Starfleet.
