3319: Númenor is drowned, and the world's shape is forever changed from flat to round. 3341: Sauron is defeated when Isildur cuts the One Ring from Sauron's finger, thus destroying his physical form. After this, the One Ring is lost for more than 2,000 years. The defeat of Sauron marks the end of the Second Age.
Isildur took up the hilt of the sword and used the broken blade to cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand. Sauron's spirit fled from his body, but as long as the Ring that held much of his power survived so would his spirit.
Finally, Sauron himself came forth and dueled with both Elendil and Gil-galad, slaying them both single-handedly; however, he himself was overthrown in the process. Then Isildur, son of Elendil, took up his father's broken sword, Narsil, and used it to cut the One Ring from Sauron's finger.
In the books, Isildur did not defeat Sauron; it was his father Elendil and the Elf King Gil-galad who defeated Sauron together at the cost of their lives. Isildur cut the Ring from Sauron's dying body, and his spirit fled.
The war ended when Sauron himself came forth and fought Gil-galad in combat, who was then joined by Elendil. Although they both fell, they managed to defeat Sauron and bring him down. Isildur in the same hour then subsequently cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand, dispersing his spirit.

Did Isildur become a Nazgul?
Isildur features briefly in voiced-over flashback sequences of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. The video game Middle-earth: Shadow of War departs from Tolkien's narrative by having Sauron make Isildur into a Nazgûl or ringwraith.
Finally Sauron came out to fight Elendil and Gil-galad face to face. When Elendil fell, his sword Narsil broke beneath him. Isildur took up the hilt-shard of Narsil and cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand, vanquishing Sauron.

The Elven King named Gil-galad fought side-by-side with Elendil, the King of Men. Together they managed to mortally wound Sauron, but the fight cost them their lives. This is when Isildur, son of Elendil, took his father's sword and cut the Ring from Sauron's hand, dealing the final blow.
Sauron's deepest fear was that Aragorn would use the Ring against him. With its powers of domination, Aragorn could comfortably take over the entirety of Sauron's dark army. Though this would eventually corrupt Aragorn, it would allow him to destroy Sauron and take his place.
Additionally, while he was in his weakened state, Galadriel could hold him off through the power of will alone. However, if Sauron had his One Ring and faced off in a battle against Galadriel, it's unlikely that there would be much she could do.
In a one-on-one battle, Galadriel would likely lose to Sauron. Even though she's an Elf, both powerful and intelligent, Sauron is Maiar. Odds are, Sauron didn't fear a physical defeat — only a fellow Maia ring-bearer could physically oppose him and win, after all — but Galadriel is threatening in other ways.

After trying and failing to murder Sauron to save Middle Earth in the final episode, Season 2 of The Rings of Power could see Galadriel blinded by rage at Sauron's betrayal and deception. One thing is now certain; the friends, and even potential lovers, have become sworn enemies.
Since their will was not bound to Sauron now, it is more likely that they ran away in terror and scattered across Middle-earth. After Sauron's defeat, Aragorn and his army killed the remaining Orcs in Mordor.
Ar-Pharazôn the King received word of his rise in power, and angered by Sauron's pride the Númenóreans swiftly came once more to Middle-earth with a great military force to confront Sauron a final time in SA 3261. So mighty were they that Sauron's forces fled from them with barely a fight.
